Surf Foil World Tour (SFT) Show #6 - Introducing the Global Foil Board Sports Association (GFA) with Jorgen Vogt
New Global Foil Association Unites Non-Wind Powered Foiling Disciplines
In the latest episode of the Foil Life Podcast, host Luc Moore sits down with Dr. Jørgen Vogt—Secretary General of the Global Kitesports Association (GKA) and Global Wingsports Association (GWA)—to unveil an exciting new chapter for the foiling world: the Global Full Boardsports Association (GFA).
This new international body is dedicated exclusively to non-wind powered foiling disciplines, including prone surf foiling, pump foiling, wake foiling, and e-foiling—distinct from wind-driven wing foiling.
Vogt, a former lawyer who traded suits for saltwater over a decade ago, brings his extensive experience founding and leading successful associations to this fresh initiative.

Why Create the GFA Now?
Drawing lessons from the growth of kite and wing sports, Vogt emphasizes the need for community-led governance to protect emerging disciplines:
"A sport is governed by one federation... who comes from the sport, who lives the sport, and knows exactly what the sport is about... Once the sport becomes successful... federations are coming around the corner trying to rule the sport who are not connected to the sport at all."
The GFA was formed proactively to prevent external organizations—lacking deep understanding of foiling—from imposing unsuitable rules as these sports gain popularity. Vogt highlights real-world examples, like events requiring official governance (e.g., the popular Leucate, France stop on the Surf Foil Tour).
Unlike the GWA, which primarily represents established wind-sports brands, the GFA is more inclusive. It welcomes smaller innovators, new brands, and passionate individuals, providing a platform for voices in emerging segments like e-foiling and foil assist.
Safeguarding Access and Community Interests
A core mission is unified representation to legislators, environmental authorities, and even the International Olympic Committee (IOC). Vogt stresses the power of unity:
"If we unify, then we are stronger... As soon as more and more people are doing this sport, there might be one or two... who misbehave. And then they are used as an example to prohibit the sport."
He shares success stories from preventing kitesurfing bans in Europe through education and coordinated advocacy, noting how misconceptions often lead to restrictions. For everyday riders, the GFA aims to protect spot access, counter environmental concerns, and ensure the sports remain authentic—even if they one day reach Olympic consideration.
Leadership and the Growing Surf Foil Tour
The diverse GFA board reflects the breadth of non-wind foiling:
Chairman: Dominic from Foil Drive
Representatives from e-surfing, North America, and more
Vogt's legal background (PhD in International Law) ensures the association is built on a solid, credible foundation while remaining flexible and responsive.
The conversation also spotlights the Surf Foil Tour (SFT), which exceeded expectations in its 2025 inaugural season and kicks off 2026 at Boot Düsseldorf (January 17-19).
Vogt encourages recreational riders to join the fun:
"At the SFT, everyone who is considering to compete and just have fun should go... It's more about fun at the moment, just coming together, talking about gear... in a very relaxed atmosphere."
As non-wind powered foiling continues its explosive growth—from dock pumps to electric lake sessions—the GFA stands ready to unify the community, amplify its voice, and secure a thriving future for these exhilarating sports.
