[00:00:06] [SPEAKER_01]: foil school, Netherlands. He joins us to talk about his school, their specialties. The conditions
[00:00:12] [SPEAKER_01]: you can expect at Brower's Dam, their upcoming trips in Denmark, Italy, Tenerife, Brazil. And
[00:00:19] [SPEAKER_01]: we even talked about how to read the ocean and understanding wave dynamics. So I really do hope
[00:00:25] [SPEAKER_01]: you enjoy this episode. If you haven't caught last week's episode, we talk with Alice Sandevall,
[00:00:30] [SPEAKER_01]: Jose Tamasi. He is a pro-winged foil racer from Italy. He joins us to talk about his early IQ
[00:00:37] [SPEAKER_01]: foiling days. His love and passion for teaching. His sponsors, his hair care routine. And much
[00:00:43] [SPEAKER_01]: more. So if you haven't listened to this episode already, we suggest that you do. Now I want to take
[00:00:48] [SPEAKER_01]: this opportunity to thank our team for making this show a reality. We have Frank that helps with
[00:00:53] [SPEAKER_01]: media and consulting. We have Matthias on guest relations, and we have Stefan on audio master.
[00:00:59] [SPEAKER_01]: A big thank you as a lot of work goes into each and every episode. Next I'd like to say a big
[00:01:04] [SPEAKER_01]: thank you to Norfoils. There are one of our sponsors. They have a great team. They're gear I'm
[00:01:10] [SPEAKER_01]: testing and so far I'm loving it. So I will be riding their gear this winter in Lavantana, Mexico.
[00:01:16] [SPEAKER_01]: So if you're in the area, come by say hi. Lastly, winters coming and if you haven't decided where
[00:01:22] [SPEAKER_01]: to go yet, I would suggest hopping over to our website, winglifepodcast.com and clicking on
[00:01:28] [SPEAKER_01]: trips in the main navigation menu to see what we have in store for 2025. We have some pretty

[00:01:43] [SPEAKER_01]: come down say hi. Take some lessons. So now I hope you enjoy today's show.
[00:01:55] [SPEAKER_01]: Welcome to the winglifepodcast where we talk about wing foiling and the lifestyles of those who
[00:02:01] [SPEAKER_01]: enjoy this great sport. Well hey brother, thanks for taking the time out of your day and to join us
[00:02:07] [SPEAKER_01]: here looking forward to getting into some foiling chat and everything else with you. Sure,
[00:02:11] [SPEAKER_01]: thanks for the invite. So whereabouts are you? You're in the Netherlands? Well at the moment I'm at home.
[00:02:19] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah at the moment it's a big season at the home, so I'm quite busy with the school. It's
[00:02:24] [SPEAKER_00]: finally kind of like summer. We had a quite a slow season, a cold for a very long time.
[00:02:32] [SPEAKER_00]: Wins my very good but due to the weather we had a bit of a lack of tourists around so I'd
[00:02:39] [SPEAKER_00]: give time to travel around. My latest trip I went to the youth GWA World wing foiling championships
[00:02:47] [SPEAKER_00]: which was awesome to see the level of the young rivers. What I especially the under 19
[00:02:55] [SPEAKER_00]: class is hosting a World Top Riders and it's insane to see what they're doing and what I'm capable
[00:03:03] [SPEAKER_00]: of. I was surprised that we had every round from the quarter finals onto the finals.
[00:03:11] [SPEAKER_00]: The each full of innovation tricks so tricks that never been seen before are not really
[00:03:16] [SPEAKER_00]: been judged well. So yeah it was a pretty good highlight to start off the the real summer here
[00:03:26] [SPEAKER_00]: and now it's been worked so what's still foiling a lot? Yeah no that's about what was a craziest
[00:03:32] [SPEAKER_00]: trick you saw at that event. Crazy trick all out it was all over the place of six tricks. You know
[00:03:38] [SPEAKER_00]: like those combos backflip into backflip. I saw a survey doing these weird those side backmopes
[00:03:49] [SPEAKER_00]: and the triple combo from these Austrian twins. What was the polo into a backflip into a 360?
[00:03:59] [SPEAKER_00]: That was pretty nuts. And the younger generation as well and the 16 they're also a
[00:04:06] [SPEAKER_00]: few guys that are ripping up place I'm not sure how to net out the tricks are called anyway at
[00:04:11] [SPEAKER_00]: some point because it's getting so much to do makes of tight and wakeboarding flints where they
[00:04:16] [SPEAKER_00]: go from blind so they hold the wing behind their back reverse. Not really my style of tricks but
[00:04:25] [SPEAKER_00]: it looks impressive I'm not even sure sometimes how they can land again above the board and have
[00:04:31] [SPEAKER_00]: their wing in a certain position that they can continue to ride so the level is definitely bursting
[00:04:39] [SPEAKER_00]: at the moment for the freestyle and let's hope we can all still follow it and make sure to
[00:04:47] [SPEAKER_00]: feel what is happening. I know like these ladies double backflips or that's something beautiful
[00:04:54] [SPEAKER_00]: but if it goes any third and doubles then it's getting pretty hard to notice what's really going on.
[00:05:02] [SPEAKER_00]: So I've been quite a really hope that wave and big air formats are starting to grow again
[00:05:08] [SPEAKER_00]: within the wing foilsy for me as a writer that would feel much more
[00:05:16] [SPEAKER_00]: close to start to compete again instead of the format that we have now I think in front
[00:05:24] [SPEAKER_00]: the guys are sending it as well. Huge front flips at 10-11 meters. Yes it's crazy. It's the
[00:05:30] [SPEAKER_00]: next level in the sport to push how huge we can go. Yeah Tom's gonna come on I think next weekend
[00:05:40] [SPEAKER_01]: and we're gonna recap that event plus the next one plus the next one so yeah just just insane
[00:05:47] [SPEAKER_01]: we talked briefly yesterday and yeah like I don't know how high Chris went on that double backflip
[00:05:54] [SPEAKER_01]: maybe six to seven or something but it was the 10-11 meter front flips stalled front
[00:06:01] [SPEAKER_01]: flip rotations but that's a thing that an average writer is never ever gonna touch. It's cool to watch
[00:06:08] [SPEAKER_01]: but I don't know who will ever out of the intermediate writers at there weekend warriors or
[00:06:15] [SPEAKER_01]: even gonna touch it backflip but let's cool to see them pushing it. Oh sure. Well I think because
[00:06:22] [SPEAKER_00]: every time it's still if a sport comes with going fast and to show height it's much more
[00:06:29] [SPEAKER_00]: attractive to the people on the beach to the visitors for event and that is what is my opinion
[00:06:37] [SPEAKER_00]: beauty of this big air bar big air contest. In my opinion it should push and promote these events
[00:06:44] [SPEAKER_00]: much more over the regular free stuff events that we've seen now. Okay but anyway to go that huge I think
[00:06:53] [SPEAKER_00]: you just need iron your iron ankles and knees to stick those landings. I'm not even sure
[00:07:05] [SPEAKER_00]: all these boards can handle it there must be finished like concrete or something because they're
[00:07:15] [SPEAKER_00]: well I think that the guys will really push this big air they also got injured at some point.
[00:07:23] [SPEAKER_00]: We had what's the name in Benjamin May I think. They can also got injured but pushing
[00:07:29] [SPEAKER_00]: the bigger and his friend would lately get the double front flip first and last so I think you
[00:07:35] [SPEAKER_00]: also got some serious injuries with practicing that trick. Now that's the hard thing I think
[00:07:42] [SPEAKER_00]: pushing back I really need to use your wing in the landing as a parachute or something. It's not
[00:07:48] [SPEAKER_00]: like kite serving way can you continue to steer a kite from left to right to make things
[00:07:53] [SPEAKER_00]: something either um by is for me it's incredible to watch. Yeah I don't think it doesn't
[00:08:02] [SPEAKER_01]: loft that you can't kite loop it you can't come down to a soft landing. It's better than wind
[00:08:09] [SPEAKER_01]: surfing but I don't know if it's soft enough for those but I guess they're doing it now but
[00:08:16] [SPEAKER_01]: maybe knees and hips and back are gonna are gonna go later but I don't know that's the only
[00:08:23] [SPEAKER_01]: concern I guess you have with some of these kids that are like maybe their growth plates aren't
[00:08:28] [SPEAKER_01]: even done growing yet and they're sending something like this that's the only concern you can have
[00:08:32] [SPEAKER_01]: a 14 year old doing that. Yeah on a present yeah so Netherlands is that where you grew up?
[00:08:42] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah I grew up in the Netherlands always quite close to the water so I got in contact with
[00:08:47] [SPEAKER_00]: water sports from quite a year age starting with sailing and these small patop optimist boats and
[00:08:55] [SPEAKER_00]: then threading into with serving only quite early age and then at some point when I got
[00:09:02] [SPEAKER_00]: 13 to 14 I think we got the major kite serve hype and yeah those did I follow up from
[00:09:12] [SPEAKER_00]: surf falling and I was doing a little on kite surfing and it's not serving more than
[00:09:17] [SPEAKER_00]: well it's different foil discipline starting to appear starting with kite falling and surf falling
[00:09:22] [SPEAKER_00]: and then oh if finally at wing falling since 2019 which came in a really good moment
[00:09:32] [SPEAKER_00]: for me because I always had the idea to try to do something more within the industry from being
[00:09:38] [SPEAKER_00]: as a rider perspective but also for business perspective but for wind-serving and kite swimming
[00:09:44] [SPEAKER_00]: else both or too young or too late in the generation and when wing falling came up
[00:09:52] [SPEAKER_00]: I felt for me in the right time and in the end what makes this kite-serving mindset a bit
[00:09:59] [SPEAKER_00]: yeah and that starts until so far quite a successful school with it and could change my whole life
[00:10:08] [SPEAKER_00]: into a much easier way to travel and explore new spots with wing falling share
[00:10:15] [SPEAKER_00]: wing foil or in general foiling stoic with people and so I could build my life video around it which
[00:10:23] [SPEAKER_00]: super red and we're still growing and pushing at the moment focus is mainly on
[00:10:33] [SPEAKER_00]: growing with with caps so to set up a business which is a whole year around business
[00:10:40] [SPEAKER_00]: where you first rely on the six months summer or the six months season in the lens
[00:10:45] [SPEAKER_00]: and there's much more than that so nowadays we host cameras at Legeti Garda and in Italy
[00:10:53] [SPEAKER_00]: we go through Doc Lam or Rocco we go to Brazil in November we have our first diamond
[00:11:01] [SPEAKER_00]: soft foil camp on Melano tenories then we do in Mars at the same spot two weeks of a wing foil camp
[00:11:09] [SPEAKER_00]: so pretty busy actually the warrior around but that's some like if you start doing more
[00:11:16] [SPEAKER_00]: camps it's more for intermediate riders and you can go much deeper into into the tech behind
[00:11:22] [SPEAKER_00]: foils or the technique out of use them and sharing your story again is awesome but
[00:11:32] [SPEAKER_00]: bringing your knowledge into use for a rider which is which requires more of your knowledge or
[00:11:42] [SPEAKER_00]: the difficulty can share your knowledge on that's a beautiful week it's a exhausting a week of camp
[00:11:49] [SPEAKER_00]: but if ever at least you're the smile and be very happy of this successful week it's such a great feeling
[00:11:55] [SPEAKER_01]: oh yeah how long have you been doing those camps up on top of your school
[00:12:00] [SPEAKER_00]: uh I was so wish we opened this cool in large 21 and then the first year it was all a bit
[00:12:11] [SPEAKER_00]: what we kept it slow because we were just coming off the whole COVID thing
[00:12:19] [SPEAKER_00]: so our first camp was in 2022 actually and we did a camp in Egypt which was fun
[00:12:26] [SPEAKER_00]: but we didn't go back to anymore okay we had a few more successful camps in in Dakla and in Italy
[00:12:34] [SPEAKER_00]: so this is actually the third year we'll be going into the third year that I'm gonna do these camps
[00:12:42] [SPEAKER_00]: and the camp is pretty relaxed as well because at home at the school and you work with several instructors
[00:12:49] [SPEAKER_00]: which always need to keep track on what they're doing and with the camp you're just on a new location
[00:12:56] [SPEAKER_00]: and you got to work with the staff which is there but I don't need to show them anything what
[00:13:03] [SPEAKER_00]: what they need to do I'm just there to host my group and so what we do is we we always
[00:13:13] [SPEAKER_00]: collaborate with different schools around the world for these camps so that there is a location
[00:13:19] [SPEAKER_00]: mainly with accommodation and that we just got to share our knowledge or share our reach
[00:13:28] [SPEAKER_00]: so we can bring in students from both sides and in that way you just grow in a little bit more
[00:13:39] [SPEAKER_00]: of an international known and if you just don't only focus on the Dutch market but easily
[00:13:47] [SPEAKER_00]: approach more of the German which is a much bigger market in Europe or the ones in France
[00:13:55] [SPEAKER_00]: or in Switzerland and what you realize now is with those camps that are more often you do
[00:14:03] [SPEAKER_00]: that there are several people who actually come along every year for one week where the camp because
[00:14:09] [SPEAKER_00]: they're just they're like the vibes in the camp and they always learn something and yeah they always
[00:14:16] [SPEAKER_00]: have to benefit in the camps that are bringing along the newest door-to-one gear which they can
[00:14:21] [SPEAKER_00]: directly try and yeah you get to know the people so you exactly know at some point what's
[00:14:30] [SPEAKER_00]: they want to learn what they're kind of chief and well like the better you get to know them
[00:14:37] [SPEAKER_00]: the more of a nice time you can have them to really have a holiday with them and that's what
[00:14:42] [SPEAKER_00]: we're about for sure on the next thing is with setting up those camps I have a budget to travel
[00:14:50] [SPEAKER_00]: somewhere and then afterwards we stayed for another week or two weeks too
[00:14:55] [SPEAKER_00]: I don't really like the word train for foil disciplines or serving disciplines just to
[00:15:03] [SPEAKER_00]: express myself and explore new places or push my boundaries
[00:15:10] [SPEAKER_00]: so that's saying trying to win foil bigger waves trying to catch a longer waves with surf
[00:15:17] [SPEAKER_00]: foiling trying to go out and have your conditions with down in subfoiling
[00:15:23] [SPEAKER_00]: that is actually my addiction at the moment because it's such a pure sport
[00:15:31] [SPEAKER_00]: how's the learning process for that going?
[00:15:34] [SPEAKER_00]: be be prepared in a lot of swimming sessions and well I think if you have an actually
[00:15:42] [SPEAKER_00]: feedback around it's got a slightly easier I didn't had it and I was still learning a lot
[00:15:49] [SPEAKER_00]: on the pedal part but the beautiful thing is it's it's an endurance sport as well
[00:15:58] [SPEAKER_00]: and that you don't really have wet wing foiling and well like it it lets your comfort zone really
[00:16:08] [SPEAKER_00]: grow so you really need to overthink until where can I go how far away from the shore can I go
[00:16:15] [SPEAKER_00]: to still feel comfortable and to still be able to swim back to the beach when she had
[00:16:21] [SPEAKER_00]: defense or when you called pedal up anymore so we need to take it easy and stay patience
[00:16:34] [SPEAKER_00]: in our area I definitely started as one of the first but up north there was a few guys already
[00:16:40] [SPEAKER_00]: who I think practice this for over a year so I could already get a few tips and tricks from there
[00:16:48] [SPEAKER_00]: so I think they had a bit more of an heavy start than me but still I have sessions that I will never
[00:16:54] [SPEAKER_00]: forget anymore about how heavy they were and also nowadays the sessions are getting better
[00:17:02] [SPEAKER_00]: and better and so that's a really good session is that your first pedal up attempt is up and flying
[00:17:11] [SPEAKER_00]: and then you step over your board or you crash just by you enter the beach again where you want to
[00:17:19] [SPEAKER_00]: go out then 15 kilometers further and as a server then you serve the longest wave of your life
[00:17:25] [SPEAKER_00]: then to 15 kilometers that's true but it's amazing with nothing and you hand just a pedal and
[00:17:32] [SPEAKER_00]: well it really puts yourself into a certain perspective again about how fit you are and just
[00:17:42] [SPEAKER_00]: over you're starting to overthink of you what things that happen on your ship what if you break
[00:17:48] [SPEAKER_00]: your pedal what if the curve is going in a wrong direction and those things
[00:17:54] [SPEAKER_00]: I've had it as well when I started for example kite serving or it's on wing falling as well
[00:18:00] [SPEAKER_00]: first times you've been at wing falling bigger waves you felt so vulnerable we should attack
[00:18:05] [SPEAKER_00]: maybe my wing explodes and then into swim in and I don't have the kite to pull it out of the
[00:18:11] [SPEAKER_00]: white water you know and that part you started to feel overly safe again at some point and
[00:18:19] [SPEAKER_00]: while that feeling came back again with that wind stop for the
[00:18:23] [SPEAKER_00]: imagine just out in the middle of the ocean sometimes and sometimes alone you just have your body
[00:18:29] [SPEAKER_00]: who is going to do your downwind pick up so you really rely on yourself and it's not that
[00:18:38] [SPEAKER_00]: that it's taking over all the sports it's an addition to make yourself into a better foiter
[00:18:46] [SPEAKER_00]: and I'd love to practice foiling in a widest option that there is from surf falling
[00:18:54] [SPEAKER_00]: or no wind to light wind days to wing foil in freestyle or bit of freestyle on flat water days
[00:19:03] [SPEAKER_00]: preferably riding waves at a bit of a combination like you know like the old wind surf format
[00:19:08] [SPEAKER_00]: going out doing some jobs and riding in to catch some nice waves and then
[00:19:14] [SPEAKER_00]: yeah there is conditions where it just waves don't really hit powerful the pitch but
[00:19:20] [SPEAKER_00]: it is travel along the coast and then it's all downwind things comes up and I think this has
[00:19:26] [SPEAKER_00]: got really going to grow quickly underneath our surface because lately you got a bit less
[00:19:35] [SPEAKER_00]: than the latest new foils from them in collaboration with really well-known service John John
[00:19:41] [SPEAKER_00]: and Nathan Florence so I think as you got to come let a few service approach foil discipline
[00:19:50] [SPEAKER_00]: as well if they want to yeah if you can ride yeah that's true yeah but I guess you are a
[00:20:01] [SPEAKER_01]: little bit you're right wing foiling I felt more exposed in wind surfing because wind surfing was
[00:20:06] [SPEAKER_01]: right in true in essence I didn't think stuff would break as easily wing foiling you have no
[00:20:11] [SPEAKER_01]: idea you could be out there some snaps but the same thing with a paddle you're right like then
[00:20:16] [SPEAKER_01]: you would have to just line your belly and paddle yourself back home whoa depends how far
[00:20:21] [SPEAKER_01]: you are that'd be a pretty hell of a pretty hell of a long paddle but what was your first
[00:20:28] [SPEAKER_00]: ever foil session like and would that make you feel like um so when I went up in a great
[00:20:37] [SPEAKER_00]: downwind foiling or just in general my first touch with the foil discipline first touch with the foil
[00:20:46] [SPEAKER_00]: well that was with a kite actually way back and weight is at this sling shell thing which
[00:20:54] [SPEAKER_00]: is a huge must I mean I think we had it in the shop prior than worked I mean I think we had it for
[00:21:00] [SPEAKER_00]: maybe a month and we just looked at it and I'm like man I'm not sure if this is gonna be nice
[00:21:08] [SPEAKER_00]: if you by these dried it or colleagues and they were not that successful and then later they got
[00:21:14] [SPEAKER_00]: with these short molestone they give it a go and then it's actually odd it's pretty sick like
[00:21:19] [SPEAKER_00]: comes it came a bit like it felt a bit like powder snow warning like this floatering feeling
[00:21:27] [SPEAKER_00]: just the thing where the kite stayed a bit annoying because you it's not as free to maneuver
[00:21:35] [SPEAKER_00]: well if it's another free to move in every direction way you want to go to which have with a wing
[00:21:41] [SPEAKER_00]: or without anything in your hands but the the feeding they've finally got had something on me directly
[00:21:49] [SPEAKER_00]: but it really started to push or like the card in a addiction when wing foiling came
[00:22:00] [SPEAKER_00]: because full serving of prawns foiling just cut out a little bit the earlier than then
[00:22:07] [SPEAKER_00]: weight so we were practicing that and by the time it could just make the first connection from
[00:22:14] [SPEAKER_00]: wave to waves and wing foiling came and while I learned wing foiling the guys they directly showed
[00:22:21] [SPEAKER_00]: us there's some Mauritius that they could already write their prawn foil equipment and brought
[00:22:27] [SPEAKER_00]: that into waves and I was like wow this disconnects surfing surf foiling and the previous
[00:22:36] [SPEAKER_00]: wind sports and a bit kite surfing and wind surfing into one thing that's uh so at and then
[00:22:44] [SPEAKER_00]: from then on it really started that I was like wow foiling is the shit and you learn every
[00:22:50] [SPEAKER_00]: session you learn if it's a record a giant variation but mainly with the surfing part
[00:22:59] [SPEAKER_00]: is to read the ocean to know like up which wave or which bounce to that follow to catch the longest
[00:23:07] [SPEAKER_00]: right or into which part of the waves should I go back through to feel the energy part again
[00:23:14] [SPEAKER_00]: if it's on a on a pillar on a reef or when it's on just a you know like in the
[00:23:24] [SPEAKER_00]: as we have a few of this waves which have three or four sand bars going out so they break three
[00:23:32] [SPEAKER_00]: or four times quite mellow and if you like you learn every time better to stay connected to the
[00:23:39] [SPEAKER_00]: energy part of your wave where you as a winter kite surfing that really quickly want to go all the way
[00:23:46] [SPEAKER_00]: down into the kind of in the what do you call it in this in the hollow part of your wave in the
[00:23:51] [SPEAKER_00]: off or to the foil there's no power there anymore you want to stay more mid phase to up and cruise
[00:23:58] [SPEAKER_00]: a little there to create your eight figures that is there's so much to learn still now it's
[00:24:04] [SPEAKER_00]: done 24 so we're let's say surf foiling six years ahead wing foiling five
[00:24:14] [SPEAKER_01]: yeah it's a notice yeah and there's been so much progression in wings and foil
[00:24:21] [SPEAKER_01]: is like what have you seen in over there for progressions of foils like what gear are you writing now
[00:24:28] [SPEAKER_01]: comparative to obviously when you started but the hell of a difference it's a hell of a difference
[00:24:34] [SPEAKER_00]: it's so different so I actually the foils I used to write nowadays I would I was never expecting
[00:24:41] [SPEAKER_00]: that we could write those for wing foiling so my go to setup for example now is a six hundred
[00:24:52] [SPEAKER_00]: fifty foil it's a six hundred fifty square centimeter which is quite small but as huge amount of
[00:25:00] [SPEAKER_00]: pop for for jumps it turns really well and when you get to notice foil you can actually
[00:25:10] [SPEAKER_00]: pump and connect quite well well I used mainly this this one is mainly used for wing foiling
[00:25:18] [SPEAKER_00]: it's the do it on a aircraft delivered two point out but for a six fifty foil it's surprisingly
[00:25:26] [SPEAKER_00]: good just as long as you keep it on the certain speed it just keeps lighting and it just wants to turn
[00:25:35] [SPEAKER_00]: okay and that's the actually the one I used for wing foiling some of the use of five
[00:25:42] [SPEAKER_00]: hundred version what it's bigger waves anyone to go extra fast with a longer fuse you got a bit more
[00:25:49] [SPEAKER_00]: pitch control well actually for wing foiling and never use bigger anymore oh I need to be that 12
[00:26:00] [SPEAKER_00]: knots and lower amount then nowadays go a bit up in volume of the board or try to use the foils that
[00:26:08] [SPEAKER_00]: were you at a use for prone foiling or surf falling whatever you want to nail it and that's the
[00:26:15] [SPEAKER_00]: thing now I meant before I could add to start you could use the same material for prone foiling
[00:26:22] [SPEAKER_00]: as for wing foiling I did what was small to start but it could work because of your huge foil
[00:26:29] [SPEAKER_00]: nowadays it's got a bit further away from each other so you need a bigger range of gear to
[00:26:37] [SPEAKER_00]: to get the most out of every session with a different foil discipline but it's quite fun to
[00:26:47] [SPEAKER_00]: feel the difference in foils and still there's so much so much progression to be made and now
[00:26:55] [SPEAKER_00]: since a month or two you're talking with is new waist foil which is a bit of a weird one it's
[00:27:03] [SPEAKER_00]: at the idle foil looks a bit like I think it's called named as the XSRT now the Spitfire but then
[00:27:12] [SPEAKER_00]: the hide also kind of up so I just want to roll from side to side it's just so we're currently
[00:27:20] [SPEAKER_00]: and if you could bear that through the standard foiling shapes that we started with in 2019
[00:27:30] [SPEAKER_00]: it's crazy that something like this could work and that's saying to make a comparison to what we
[00:27:36] [SPEAKER_00]: use now so in the first year every time to try to serve waves we were mainly on a S1
[00:27:48] [SPEAKER_00]: gravity 1400 or a the first huge femtom the 1780 or 100 gravity so we went I went with those
[00:27:58] [SPEAKER_00]: foils to Cape Town in January 2020 as well to try to write waves and we were really stoked actually
[00:28:05] [SPEAKER_00]: on what happened there but if I looked it had footage of those days now while
[00:28:12] [SPEAKER_00]: they're all as so slow I can't even imagine writing those foils anymore I don't even
[00:28:18] [SPEAKER_00]: why can't the school you use them but nothing like that anymore it's not sure yeah I guess so
[00:28:28] [SPEAKER_01]: yeah I haven't written anything like I just got the new surf wings from north so I'll be
[00:28:33] [SPEAKER_01]: hopping on those soon and the smallest I got was in 830 but before I get to Mexico
[00:28:40] [SPEAKER_01]: I might have to get myself a 650 or something or a 630 something they have some smaller ones
[00:28:46] [SPEAKER_01]: I can't remember the exact sizing but I might actually have to pick one of those up then just try
[00:28:52] [SPEAKER_00]: to at this winter because you're thinking you love the smaller ones then yes 100% well
[00:29:07] [SPEAKER_00]: at lifts on at 830 you can definitely try to write it from the way in a smaller version
[00:29:15] [SPEAKER_00]: but the waves that we served there was super poor on Monday it was saying need to waste high
[00:29:23] [SPEAKER_00]: maximum and well I think we don't even call it a you know why they wouldn't even call it one
[00:29:30] [SPEAKER_00]: seat of a wife so every point because when we end up on the we arrive at the beach I would just
[00:29:38] [SPEAKER_00]: look at it and it's like a clean but it's so small and he made it work but that's the thing where
[00:29:45] [SPEAKER_00]: the smaller front wings in combination with the newer wings and so the if you're following is smaller
[00:29:57] [SPEAKER_00]: it has anyway less resistance to forward it's forward into the water to accelerate towards
[00:30:03] [SPEAKER_00]: your lifting speed and if you compare at the first generation of wings to what we write now
[00:30:15] [SPEAKER_00]: back then you had to pump much much more and much more like a constantly to get up
[00:30:20] [SPEAKER_00]: and the new wings that we're using in the school combination with a bigger front wing
[00:30:27] [SPEAKER_00]: and the right amount of wind strength sometimes don't even need to pump anymore it's just
[00:30:35] [SPEAKER_00]: opening up which are front arm to kind of give mass pressure for wind serving and the wings
[00:30:40] [SPEAKER_00]: what is accelerate from it from itself already I'm not really sure that the name for this
[00:30:48] [SPEAKER_00]: for what's happening with the wing it's got I think it's more like there's more ground power in
[00:30:53] [SPEAKER_00]: it so they want to playing more from itself so you need to do less to accelerate already
[00:30:59] [SPEAKER_00]: in that combination between better working foil profiles and better wings that should
[00:31:08] [SPEAKER_00]: mean to me right a better these will make sure that you can ride much smaller foils already
[00:31:13] [SPEAKER_00]: I actually was it's I got surprised last week as well I tried a new do it on foil which is not
[00:31:22] [SPEAKER_00]: out yet and it was in a range on the 700 and it was quite a high aspect one
[00:31:33] [SPEAKER_00]: and when my super light I was like all right I'll just give it a go and then this I didn't even
[00:31:38] [SPEAKER_00]: had to pump and it just got up so it's super weird this the 100 size I'm not sure what the
[00:31:44] [SPEAKER_00]: exact size was it had a lift over 1000 foil but it could go as fast as the old 700
[00:31:55] [SPEAKER_00]: the foil designer but some of the other designers are all there something really great
[00:32:01] [SPEAKER_00]: but it can just push the range of how far or how slow you can go with a front-range
[00:32:08] [SPEAKER_01]: re-fire and it's something impressive hmm so your foil school is called foil school
[00:32:18] [SPEAKER_01]: Netherlands yeah correct awesome okay that's cool so then you guys are teaching
[00:32:26] [SPEAKER_01]: kite yeah kite's foiling foil surfing wing foiling oh that's sick so where about is it in
[00:32:34] [SPEAKER_00]: Ireland so we are based on the plowage though and at plowage on my work previously as well
[00:32:44] [SPEAKER_00]: and it's quite known for when serving in kite serving all over the years
[00:32:50] [SPEAKER_00]: but no one really started with wing foiling yet there and why were you went for
[00:32:58] [SPEAKER_00]: foil school or for school in Netherlands and me and a poly of mine which actually helped me
[00:33:07] [SPEAKER_00]: getting onto this name we both really believed in the wing foiling was gonna be the new
[00:33:18] [SPEAKER_00]: kite on short times year was very limited available and most others sent there's
[00:33:26] [SPEAKER_00]: a shops around us they didn't really believe in wing foiling so we had our expectations a bit
[00:33:32] [SPEAKER_00]: as well so that's that's why I went for foil school to have the option for several other
[00:33:41] [SPEAKER_00]: disciplines in in our package actually from year one the main things that we teach or 95% of
[00:33:51] [SPEAKER_00]: the lessons is wing foiling and 5% is the mix of coaching kite foiling foil surfing now a bit
[00:34:01] [SPEAKER_00]: of downwind I don't think it's even 5% might even just be true but that's saying if you have
[00:34:08] [SPEAKER_00]: foil on your website you anyway have kites and then there's always friends of all students but
[00:34:16] [SPEAKER_00]: like ah can you also always make kitesurbless and yeah sure that in your first year you want to
[00:34:22] [SPEAKER_00]: kind of catch your grip anything that can help you to get some money in a wing comp
[00:34:31] [SPEAKER_00]: but anyway we may need push wing foiling and the other sports are slowly going the
[00:34:38] [SPEAKER_00]: on kite the hike of kite foiling is gone I think what I request for lessons and it's the same
[00:34:44] [SPEAKER_00]: for prone foiling it's so complicated to learn someone prone foiling anyway need a bit
[00:34:50] [SPEAKER_00]: quite a good server we can do proper take off on the shortboard we can re-to waves while
[00:34:59] [SPEAKER_00]: court conditions to practice so maybe we do offer all the other foil disciplines
[00:35:06] [SPEAKER_00]: but the core focus is really you're wing foiling and once so far I'm happy that I went for
[00:35:12] [SPEAKER_00]: a tush to go for this path because the numbers are still growing with wing foiling
[00:35:20] [SPEAKER_00]: and with loads of people coming back and on the other side what we choose for the name
[00:35:26] [SPEAKER_00]: and so to be able to be found on the internet easily takes a bit of time
[00:35:34] [SPEAKER_00]: right or you can do it with Google ads or correct text and stuff and I'm not too far into
[00:35:40] [SPEAKER_00]: that business that people help me with it by as well so like how can we be found as easily
[00:35:46] [SPEAKER_00]: like oh I need a foil score in the Netherlands so go for the name up that for your few
[00:35:52] [SPEAKER_00]: like maybe it's like help us to reach our going yeah well like some of a funny
[00:36:00] [SPEAKER_00]: you're done it does work for some visitors you're like I'm just looking for a foil school
[00:36:06] [SPEAKER_00]: alright then they somehow come to my website oh yeah that's true actually and so for people
[00:36:14] [SPEAKER_01]: who have never heard of Broward's Dam like I'm on Google Maps right now you don't see it on
[00:36:20] [SPEAKER_01]: everybody just listening in but so you got a big sand bar it looks like on the left hand side
[00:36:25] [SPEAKER_01]: on the on the west side do you guys go at them both sides the west and the the east
[00:36:33] [SPEAKER_01]: side of that highway you do okay all right so in you have wing directions coming mainly from
[00:36:41] [SPEAKER_01]: the west and the north and south or do you have wind from everywhere I mean this year we have
[00:36:48] [SPEAKER_00]: wind from every direction the only when temperature's turned to rise we have a lot of
[00:36:57] [SPEAKER_00]: north to north east wind in May and June it's almost a bit of a termic effect so when it's
[00:37:04] [SPEAKER_00]: started to heat up during the day wind swings to north from the afternoon
[00:37:11] [SPEAKER_00]: early it turns the strong word is at the end of the day this year we had so was rain so we're
[00:37:19] [SPEAKER_00]: just relying on depression systems which have changed from south to north west and that's the
[00:37:30] [SPEAKER_00]: same liquor she'd not seen on the maps so Broward's Dam connects to islands in the south
[00:37:36] [SPEAKER_00]: where we have the lakeside the gravelling a mere where it's surge which is only allowed for wind
[00:37:43] [SPEAKER_00]: service and wing for this what is stays normally more flat can be bit costy with the with the
[00:37:49] [SPEAKER_00]: west winds but you find definitely some protection when it's stronger and then on the seaside
[00:37:57] [SPEAKER_00]: the sea all never really gets that wealth because of that outer sand bar which you just seen on
[00:38:03] [SPEAKER_00]: Google Maps sure what if it's before six and more it gets quite choppy but there still is a few corners
[00:38:13] [SPEAKER_00]: as well the seaside we can find a bit of shelter to find quite flat water to teach wing falling
[00:38:21] [SPEAKER_00]: and that's saying with this sand bar if you just go ironed or on the outside it can provide
[00:38:27] [SPEAKER_00]: very nice waves for kite serving wind surfing downwind foiling wing foiling just make sure that
[00:38:36] [SPEAKER_00]: you know what's you're doing out there but it's quite far from the coast we now are days
[00:38:43] [SPEAKER_00]: do previously be that a lot of kite serve downwind is over there and now it's turned into
[00:38:48] [SPEAKER_00]: a wind foiling or downwind foiling yesterday we actually did two very nice 20k runs
[00:38:55] [SPEAKER_00]: as it includes that we leave the wing from the beach and then we passed the sand bar and
[00:39:02] [SPEAKER_00]: the sky of check on my watch and then on six and a half k far out you've played the wing put it in
[00:39:08] [SPEAKER_00]: my back and then you start paddling again oh nice which is red yes for the next 10 to 12
[00:39:15] [SPEAKER_00]: kilometer that's the rest of the journey so we explored it first kite serving and then
[00:39:24] [SPEAKER_00]: wet the wing and now again we're at a new sport downwind soft foiling but that's saying
[00:39:30] [SPEAKER_00]: a bit the lake side and the shelter with the sand bar probably is down actually offers
[00:39:36] [SPEAKER_00]: a variety of the all options for all water sport types from at beginners to from level
[00:39:47] [SPEAKER_00]: from servers when it just practice weight catching waves for wind serving in every discipline from
[00:39:54] [SPEAKER_00]: wave we still to slalom same for kite, same for wing foiling and it's quite unique and next to that
[00:40:03] [SPEAKER_00]: on both sides you can park right next to the water without having to pay any parking fee
[00:40:11] [SPEAKER_00]: and that's nice very unique in the lens yeah that's nice yes so now our region is very very
[00:40:20] [SPEAKER_00]: well known for servers not just only from the Netherlands but also from Germany and from Belgium
[00:40:32] [SPEAKER_00]: and that's why what that's why we're in touch with both to let wing foiling grow as well
[00:40:38] [SPEAKER_00]: things one of the old sports for intermediate riders in the Netherlands oh yeah no it like um
[00:40:44] [SPEAKER_01]: for those of you listening in I'd just check if you've never heard of it because I'm just getting
[00:40:47] [SPEAKER_01]: to know some of these new spots but it looks awesome it looks beautiful yeah definitely looks like a
[00:40:52] [SPEAKER_01]: really beautiful place Matt don't have a few questions about the Netherlands in general like
[00:40:59] [SPEAKER_01]: what's your favorite wave spot and maybe do you think this is one of the better spots for beginners
[00:41:05] [SPEAKER_00]: in the Netherlands yeah yeah probably it's down definitely such a level of riders
[00:41:15] [SPEAKER_00]: we'll want to progress from early from beginners steps or from intermediate
[00:41:21] [SPEAKER_00]: towards fflat what is to riding waves sadly that the shape of the beaches have been better for riding
[00:41:33] [SPEAKER_00]: waves for long months or for powerful waves got a bit shallow and from up the shore so it
[00:41:43] [SPEAKER_00]: loses a lot of energy if I have the time and the conditions are right there and there is only
[00:41:51] [SPEAKER_00]: one place to go in the Netherlands to for wing for wave riding and that will be white can say
[00:41:57] [SPEAKER_00]: but white can say is a good hour and a half drive for me there and an hour and a half back okay
[00:42:03] [SPEAKER_00]: but there you can catch definitely a longest ride from all the way out all the way in
[00:42:13] [SPEAKER_00]: see as much steeper because there's a hardware upfront it just doesn't lose that much energy and
[00:42:20] [SPEAKER_00]: well because your hour and a half further up north
[00:42:27] [SPEAKER_00]: basically start to build more and more since we are quite close to the channel between
[00:42:32] [SPEAKER_00]: France and UK with the south west wind we only build up a little wave power from southwest
[00:42:40] [SPEAKER_00]: and over there it's much more of I can say is definitely the wave spot I think in
[00:42:46] [SPEAKER_00]: them it's as well for a high swimming wind serving okay it's just a bit of a drive for me
[00:42:52] [SPEAKER_01]: but when I have time I'd love to go yeah there's so many cool spots you can explore and
[00:42:57] [SPEAKER_01]: the nice thing about this setup is it doesn't take a lot of room in the car because I can fit
[00:43:02] [SPEAKER_01]: my like my little board and two three wings and a bunch of foils and you can still fit friends in
[00:43:08] [SPEAKER_01]: you don't have to roof anything and that's the cool aspect of it this sport definitely is
[00:43:13] [SPEAKER_01]: an ease of travel I guess the same is citing I guess but because I was wind surfing so I would
[00:43:18] [SPEAKER_01]: always have like so much kit with me but this is uh definitely making things a bit easier
[00:43:24] [SPEAKER_01]: do you have any exciting trips coming up for the remainder of this year
[00:43:29] [SPEAKER_01]: that you're stoked on and you new camps coming camps that people can join
[00:43:36] [SPEAKER_00]: well I'm always on the hunt for last minute trip but that's gonna be a bit tight normally
[00:43:45] [SPEAKER_00]: I should not go out of the trip anymore until the end of August it'll be Xi Jinping's over
[00:43:52] [SPEAKER_00]: then September we're definitely gonna visit Denmark or the region of Kola Waiag and all the way
[00:44:03] [SPEAKER_00]: same as we have in Netherlands it's over the white variety of oil action
[00:44:11] [SPEAKER_00]: then we have at the first weeks of October we're hosting our annual
[00:44:15] [SPEAKER_00]: wing foil camp at Lake Arda in Italy which is suitable for all riders who can get their first flight
[00:44:26] [SPEAKER_00]: in both directions and can surf upwind like I really got it not the easiest to everywhere come out of
[00:44:33] [SPEAKER_00]: the water and you have weird conditions because you have in the morning you've got nowhere to
[00:44:40] [SPEAKER_00]: wind and then it dies off and then from 2 o'clock you got a subwind so it turns 180 degrees
[00:44:46] [SPEAKER_00]: but it's just which is pretty surprising yeah and then I'm really looking forward to the first
[00:44:56] [SPEAKER_00]: downwind subfoil camps in tenorith that's gonna be the days we release very soon but that's
[00:45:02] [SPEAKER_00]: gonna be in November and then it's time for Brazil probably to three weeks one week camp
[00:45:11] [SPEAKER_00]: to which holiday and then afterwards December is normally the time to go to Ireland because
[00:45:20] [SPEAKER_00]: it's well conditions are mainly really good in in December it's getting a bit more quiet there
[00:45:26] [SPEAKER_00]: because the temperature's under drop and then after new years we need to see no further plans
[00:45:35] [SPEAKER_00]: yet I'd love to visit Peru but it's gonna be a bit later in a year hmm shit that's a pretty good
[00:45:41] [SPEAKER_00]: such a solid year oh yes I'm actually surprised about where I had to finish well I'm starting my
[00:45:50] [SPEAKER_00]: own company I'm gonna be super flexible and still really flexible but that the amount of
[00:45:58] [SPEAKER_00]: camps or events that are already scheduled so far ahead as I mentioned now to December then
[00:46:08] [SPEAKER_00]: first weeks of February to the next 25 we go to Dr. Lafakens and then in March so that's 25
[00:46:14] [SPEAKER_00]: first weeks as well again the dinner is so it sounds as still feels flexible but you're all
[00:46:21] [SPEAKER_00]: so starting this casual further ahead yeah which I'm still trying to get used to you know because
[00:46:29] [SPEAKER_00]: it's nice but they also blocks you again to go on and last minute trips or your buddies but at the
[00:46:38] [SPEAKER_00]: flexible as I am so they would love to come and visit me after I'm done with a camp somewhere
[00:46:47] [SPEAKER_00]: that's probably it they know that I also pick destinations that I would that should
[00:46:55] [SPEAKER_00]: deliver for the camp participants but also such I or our level of riding a so that's a good combination
[00:47:02] [SPEAKER_01]: yeah no that sounds amazing actually yeah oh loving yeah amazing we can imagine we're
[00:47:11] [SPEAKER_01]: we're gonna be running our first our first camp in Laventana in Mexico this winter so
[00:47:17] [SPEAKER_01]: that's gonna be a pretty fun one that I'm doing with La Saladita kite school and Agua Salada
[00:47:24] [SPEAKER_01]: they do like a lot of adventures boat adventures and stuff down there so we have
[00:47:29] [SPEAKER_01]: 3 30K downwinder boat support and we're gonna be able to go to these different kind of cool spots
[00:47:35] [SPEAKER_01]: in in an around that area of Laventana and I think it's gonna be it's gonna be so cool so
[00:47:43] [SPEAKER_01]: well only have eight students I'll be one of the coaches the owner of the kite school will be the
[00:47:47] [SPEAKER_01]: other one so I have four people each and yeah like 30 30 30 clonets gonna be six so I can't wait
[00:47:55] [SPEAKER_01]: for that that's in January so yeah super looking forward to that. Laventana it's not a good
[00:48:01] [SPEAKER_01]: of 40 right yeah it's a big it's a really really big and you can do up to probably 10k downwinders
[00:48:09] [SPEAKER_01]: in the bay if you climb up a little bit and you'll get some it's pretty big actually it gets some
[00:48:17] [SPEAKER_01]: decent stuff there yeah it's gonna be really fun. Not really wavesy it's like it's the swell
[00:48:25] [SPEAKER_01]: is a rolling swell you get some good beach break stuff so I can kind of ride along the beach and
[00:48:30] [SPEAKER_01]: so normally I'll do a 6k downwinder 7k downwinder play in the waves in the beach and then just climb
[00:48:34] [SPEAKER_01]: back up and get a good workout at the same time and then go to bed but it's pretty fun.
[00:48:43] [SPEAKER_00]: Sounds epic no I've checked this spot a few years ago to put it to give it a visit but never really
[00:48:50] [SPEAKER_00]: got there and then you'll wake you go we had a visit of two youngsters who ride for cabrina and
[00:48:59] [SPEAKER_00]: one of the kids I think he lives for a few months a year on Laventana. You know right for cabrina
[00:49:05] [SPEAKER_00]: his name is Benjamin Cossill. Yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah I just missed
[00:49:11] [SPEAKER_01]: um we're gonna go riding um or invite him on the show but he had just left so so I'll be there this
[00:49:18] [SPEAKER_01]: year from probably mid October to mid April so if you want to come down then you're welcome to
[00:49:23] [SPEAKER_01]: coming I got a nice apartment there so let me know if you want to rip down but there'll be a lot
[00:49:28] [SPEAKER_01]: of kids there this winter so I think it's gonna be fun just riding with everybody and then get my
[00:49:33] [SPEAKER_00]: level push to bit too so for sure you will be amazed by the kids they've got to push
[00:49:39] [SPEAKER_00]: I'll make it for next year I'll keep it in mind this year I'll meet back but yeah but in next
[00:49:43] [SPEAKER_00]: pretty what they were the two men should you get me what they're the best um it starts normally
[00:49:48] [SPEAKER_01]: like November up until March so the wind just winter time. Yeah apparently January like December
[00:49:57] [SPEAKER_01]: January February or the best but I had good days up until I left in May 26 this year and I had
[00:50:07] [SPEAKER_01]: some a couple days in May board shorts and it was it was empty because all the tourists left
[00:50:14] [SPEAKER_01]: so I had the whole place like the whole big section to myself and it was just there's a nice
[00:50:20] [SPEAKER_01]: little there's a bit of a reef so you get some baby waves and stuff on the foil and it was it
[00:50:26] [SPEAKER_01]: was pretty sick so yeah definitely could not complain. Boredch the oceans finally starting to get
[00:50:33] [SPEAKER_01]: a bit warmer there's more jellyfish but whatever you kind of stay away from those and you're okay
[00:50:39] [SPEAKER_01]: but so I'll thank you actually life pretty short of this while if you can go there for a whole
[00:50:43] [SPEAKER_01]: year. Yeah I've been working hard at that's a online work and an organizing to see if I could do
[00:50:49] [SPEAKER_01]: a few more fun things because life is pretty short so it's trying to get out of the rat race with
[00:50:55] [SPEAKER_01]: whatever ways you can and then try to enjoy these sports and then help to give back to the community
[00:51:01] [SPEAKER_01]: and help get them more stoked because you never know if we get a couple more people in the water
[00:51:06] [SPEAKER_01]: sports you never know what it'll do to their lives so yeah it's kind of I think it's all the same
[00:51:10] [SPEAKER_01]: thing that we're all doing is worlds getting kind of crazy so it's time to do some a few fun things
[00:51:18] [SPEAKER_01]: for short before you know you've got stuck in cycle whole day behind your computer pretty much pretty
[00:51:24] [SPEAKER_01]: much so what talking to a tone um we had a couple guys asking what your favorite setup was
[00:51:31] [SPEAKER_00]: that you're riding with them right now so I have a favorite setup for three main foil
[00:51:39] [SPEAKER_00]: this depends on the practice now so for wing-foiling that is at the moment to ride the
[00:51:49] [SPEAKER_00]: do it on skyrocket the 5-4 in it's a mid-length board the latest addition to the collection
[00:51:57] [SPEAKER_00]: is a 55-year-old board which I kind of chewed out of the last two weeks and it's bought
[00:52:04] [SPEAKER_00]: a sebet-tool up a bit to correct strap and a must position the board feels small what starts
[00:52:12] [SPEAKER_00]: really quickly I can do all my way for free sheltering so it's fine and a main use right is one
[00:52:17] [SPEAKER_00]: with the car 650 D-Lab and combination with a very little bit taller must and 90 must
[00:52:25] [SPEAKER_00]: have a bit more pop and a bit more range in when you dip or accelerate while rave riding
[00:52:33] [SPEAKER_00]: the range I'm using the sleek or the sleek D-Lab at the moment because you just with the
[00:52:39] [SPEAKER_00]: pull me got so many options to grip and you never miss your ball with one hand at checks
[00:52:45] [SPEAKER_00]: then for the front-foiling or surf-foiling I'm on the sky surf 4-4 always with a bit of
[00:52:55] [SPEAKER_00]: short a must 82 and then mainly using the latest whist 850 or 1000 depending on on on on
[00:53:05] [SPEAKER_00]: wave size and mainly as well on grass on waves you can just take off and you have already
[00:53:14] [SPEAKER_00]: really long rides without having to be able to pump outside and connect so this
[00:53:21] [SPEAKER_00]: case like on a point break you can necessarily ride a bit of a short front-wheel to be able to
[00:53:26] [SPEAKER_00]: turn more in the pocket but what you want is to comfortable to be able to pump through the
[00:53:31] [SPEAKER_00]: housing a bit of a bigger one and then on the on the downwind surf-foiling just switch to the whist
[00:53:41] [SPEAKER_00]: as well because it's the mid aspect my pedal is up easier and it's just so playful this only
[00:53:48] [SPEAKER_00]: wants to turn new to this strange dehydro shakelist and I'm mixing it up between
[00:53:55] [SPEAKER_00]: it's 50 to 1000 to the 1200 which is the 1000 is my go-to actually so as you mentioned previously
[00:54:06] [SPEAKER_00]: before you could easily travel in a small car with a few riders lately it's getting more complicated
[00:54:14] [SPEAKER_01]: yeah I guess so the more toys you're so many toys that's sick and there's this thing
[00:54:21] [SPEAKER_01]: it's raffling with the plane as well it's getting annoying again what do i bring yeah very very true
[00:54:28] [SPEAKER_01]: yeah very true nice man well that's a pretty awesome year that you have come enough i'm stoked for you
[00:54:35] [SPEAKER_01]: I think anytime you can kind of connect passion with with that and then make a bit of money in it
[00:54:42] [SPEAKER_01]: that's pretty amazing where do you see the sport progressing in the next three to five
[00:54:48] [SPEAKER_01]: that was Frank's question he was curious about that see get your perspective on that
[00:54:53] [SPEAKER_00]: so i really hope that we can get more kits into wing falling because now it's just a certain
[00:55:01] [SPEAKER_00]: upper level or kits who have a good connection with the brand or by chef's very definitely
[00:55:08] [SPEAKER_00]: have a connection with the brand that will be awesome to see and i hope it on a certain level that
[00:55:16] [SPEAKER_00]: keep pushing to make products better but we should not follow up into win-serving or kite
[00:55:27] [SPEAKER_00]: serving and especially win-serving making the days where i think gear just got too complicated
[00:55:32] [SPEAKER_00]: it's easy it's important to keep a certain part of the gear which is a bit of an
[00:55:39] [SPEAKER_00]: market as easy-going that the sport is approachable for everyone in the society and i think
[00:55:48] [SPEAKER_00]: lately with the push with all the even better fruit wing and then i'll re-elate the unna no one you know
[00:55:56] [SPEAKER_00]: and that's gonna good destroy the sport a bit in simplicity and i think to keep the sports
[00:56:06] [SPEAKER_00]: like approachable for everyone there should be a steady intermediate line where everyone
[00:56:16] [SPEAKER_00]: well feels connected to and is affordable as well and not everyone feels like oh
[00:56:23] [SPEAKER_00]: the original wings they're not good enough for me everyone needs delay not supposed it the
[00:56:33] [SPEAKER_00]: want or one has something specific and as long as we can maintain a basic package that
[00:56:43] [SPEAKER_00]: everyone wants to get into wing-foiling this sport will still grow and won't die off as a one-day fly
[00:56:52] [SPEAKER_00]: and that's really very important and i think it won't be over in the next five years
[00:57:00] [SPEAKER_00]: at at love to see products getting better but make sure that we don't over rush the market just
[00:57:10] [SPEAKER_00]: for the pioneer or the specialist to treat them with the best gear that they're as possible
[00:57:17] [SPEAKER_00]: because those guys will anyway always find somewhere something custom better again and
[00:57:26] [SPEAKER_00]: wanted the majority of the of the user feels connected and knows in an easy way what he should buy
[00:57:36] [SPEAKER_00]: and what is what is to continue with yeah those are good points like this is my second foil
[00:57:43] [SPEAKER_01]: kit funny enough that when i just got from north here showed up for them for being our first sponsor
[00:57:49] [SPEAKER_01]: and they've been pretty awesome but like i was riding an armstrong v1 1550 and i had that
[00:57:55] [SPEAKER_01]: since the inception and i'm just switching off it now and riding that in the great lakes and overhead
[00:58:02] [SPEAKER_01]: high swell and waves and everything and you know what for the average rider that's perfectly fine
[00:58:08] [SPEAKER_01]: it may not have tipped out it might not like you can't really float it too close to the surface
[00:58:13] [SPEAKER_01]: because it ventilates but it's a v1 who cares but still still super fun so i think we can't get lost
[00:58:20] [SPEAKER_01]: like you're saying in that foil hunt and stuff and maybe one kit and have that kit accessible
[00:58:27] [SPEAKER_01]: well let's still allow you to have a heck of a fun time in the water so that's very true
[00:58:32] [SPEAKER_00]: that's incredible so what what is but when we first sold out in the shop and the shop we first
[00:58:39] [SPEAKER_00]: sold out a few wing for kits i just need one board one foil and depending on your size you need
[00:58:47] [SPEAKER_00]: four five and six or any in the three five and a five if you know they see what people
[00:58:55] [SPEAKER_00]: well that especially the tourists who come and visit us take along with them it's coming
[00:59:03] [SPEAKER_00]: towards win serving days again where they have a light wind board a wave board a free stop
[00:59:08] [SPEAKER_00]: towards if turn to different ranges of wings five foils as i mentioned
[00:59:18] [SPEAKER_00]: previous about my gear i also do own a lot of gear sure but i practice this sport every day
[00:59:24] [SPEAKER_00]: and it's super specific for the different discipline of foiling and it's saying that it's
[00:59:34] [SPEAKER_00]: a bit like win serving again where you need but also at the electric light and board slamming
[00:59:40] [SPEAKER_00]: a wave board four different miles three booms six seals you need a trailer and much
[00:59:47] [SPEAKER_00]: and i really hope it's not going to walk too much there yeah that's true yeah i finally got my
[00:59:53] [SPEAKER_01]: wind surf kit down to like an A3 wave board but i still have three masks five sales one boom
[01:00:02] [SPEAKER_01]: but if it snaps your vacation goes south two extensions to be safe but yeah i see what you're
[01:00:07] [SPEAKER_01]: saying like especially yeah you'll probably end up having two boards like if you want but then
[01:00:14] [SPEAKER_01]: what do you take on a trip yeah it starts to definitely starts and i don't know how how
[01:00:20] [SPEAKER_01]: those SUP style boards will do for go for travel they're getting pretty long
[01:00:27] [SPEAKER_01]: um should be fine but like still more stuff could potentially get damaged i guess
[01:00:33] [SPEAKER_00]: yes so far i was quite lucky a lost halve year with traveling with a big one
[01:00:40] [SPEAKER_00]: and it makes it much more of a hassle as well to find the cap to bring you from airport to
[01:00:48] [SPEAKER_00]: destination and true let's true yes that's just as i thought i'm going to travel
[01:00:53] [SPEAKER_00]: made a 7 6 board and something in the boybugs a bit wider but hey when service could travel
[01:01:00] [SPEAKER_00]: the world is well pleased with huge amounts yeah but it's not getting easier with most of the
[01:01:07] [SPEAKER_00]: airlines if charging big amounts or reducing the weight of the bags 30 through to 20 tricky
[01:01:15] [SPEAKER_00]: then they only accept you to bring one board back instead of that you want to bring two board bags
[01:01:24] [SPEAKER_00]: because the flight is over booked or whatever or then i have these annoying rules where
[01:01:32] [SPEAKER_00]: you can take a go back for free but you need you need to pay for your service stuff
[01:01:38] [SPEAKER_01]: yeah i've seen so if it's somebody different prices i think if you're super nice to the person
[01:01:45] [SPEAKER_01]: and you play a little dumb sometimes you can get in for a bit cheaper but i've been
[01:01:52] [SPEAKER_01]: i've been lucky sometimes and then other times it doesn't go well yeah there's all these little
[01:02:00] [SPEAKER_01]: things but i think normally if you're super nice to the person and you incorporate your enthusiasm
[01:02:04] [SPEAKER_01]: with them because most people are grumpy and shit on them i've always gotten my gear cheaper
[01:02:10] [SPEAKER_01]: because of that it's just by being nice and then they get so excited for you to go on this trip
[01:02:16] [SPEAKER_01]: and they're like yeah whatever like i'll just charge a hundred bucks or like like a hit
[01:02:20] [SPEAKER_01]: came home from Mexico and the lady was super nice and i think she only charged me $100
[01:02:27] [SPEAKER_01]: Canadian and she didn't charge me american or whatever so it's crazy like but going there was 300
[01:02:32] [SPEAKER_01]: because i got the lady and she was too anal and she didn't understand what it was and i didn't
[01:02:36] [SPEAKER_01]: just cut the conversation off so she charged me triple so it was like you bugger but um it changes
[01:02:43] [SPEAKER_01]: it's all based on the person behind the desk regardless of the like note none of them fall
[01:02:48] [SPEAKER_00]: of rules so oh well what are you gonna do? You know these moments right where you just
[01:02:57] [SPEAKER_00]: trying to enter the queue and you can already see them look difficult at you from the desk in
[01:03:03] [SPEAKER_00]: up please leave let me not end up with that box let me go to the
[01:03:09] [SPEAKER_00]: lot of strange shit for it if you need much nicer same thing with crossing the border
[01:03:14] [SPEAKER_01]: and you're on life like we cross the american border to go down to the states and sail
[01:03:19] [SPEAKER_01]: and it's the same thing like if you work online or if you if you yeah like my whole car got checked last
[01:03:25] [SPEAKER_01]: time because he asked what i did and now i froze for a split second and i gave him the truth but by
[01:03:30] [SPEAKER_01]: that point it was over so i buy accidentally ask him is he need to know anything else from me today
[01:03:35] [SPEAKER_01]: he hands out his little yellow ticket sends me to search um so you never know what's going
[01:03:41] [SPEAKER_01]: to happen especially crossing borders because there's so much gear if they want they could rip apart
[01:03:48] [SPEAKER_01]: everything uh especially here because we're close to can't even the Mexican border like all that
[01:03:53] [SPEAKER_01]: stuff if you're driving um i'm mixed for adventures i guess but hey now since sometimes you just
[01:03:59] [SPEAKER_00]: fly from here i think in for the last year they know it's a lot of spot for
[01:04:05] [SPEAKER_00]: kite service to fly back to of the kite wing for the mincer to fly back through Europe
[01:04:10] [SPEAKER_00]: they also know like hey if you can make it here from europe you anyway already paid quite some money
[01:04:17] [SPEAKER_00]: so we can try to get a bit more money out of your infrastructure so they start doing annoying
[01:04:23] [SPEAKER_00]: towards you and then i was lucky last time because i still had the receipt from wallet paid
[01:04:29] [SPEAKER_00]: to get from them to fortaleza and then on the way back they tried to charge it just as you mentioned
[01:04:35] [SPEAKER_00]: like two but almost three times as much as i had in front so it's like here same way
[01:04:42] [SPEAKER_00]: different price per kilo and then it like oh sorry we just used the uh with the kilo price
[01:04:50] [SPEAKER_00]: which is normally in fortaleza so yeah but i'm flying i think i flew with KLM or F-runs
[01:04:57] [SPEAKER_00]: so please use their luggage and the rules and now your own ones because it's not fair in the end
[01:05:05] [SPEAKER_00]: because we both were in well i didn't got too mad on the first man to desk and he didn't got too mad at me
[01:05:13] [SPEAKER_00]: i could pay the normal price but in a land this Brazil where not everyone speaks as flu and English
[01:05:21] [SPEAKER_00]: or do not want to speak any English those discussions can get quite annoying have very true
[01:05:30] [SPEAKER_01]: yeah yeah i guess so haha is there anything else you wanted to cover today
[01:05:37] [SPEAKER_00]: yeah we had the last thing about the future of windfall i really you know hope again and i think
[01:05:43] [SPEAKER_00]: we didn't really got into that is um i'm hoping for a good format in the GWA for wave riding
[01:05:52] [SPEAKER_00]: so in a combination with just going out in riding waves on the way in and where the good mix
[01:06:02] [SPEAKER_00]: between ever windfall and left in the right in combination with that a left and all right in the
[01:06:09] [SPEAKER_00]: way just like in the world's server league as um an eco-chowns for riders to win
[01:06:19] [SPEAKER_00]: and you always have effort for windsurfing you learn to wave right with both feet and front
[01:06:25] [SPEAKER_00]: right because you can't stand switch stands the right away so you will learn how to jump
[01:06:32] [SPEAKER_00]: riding right foot out and left and left foot and same wave riding for jumping to come from
[01:06:38] [SPEAKER_00]: kinds of backgrounds and you have a server background as well you can easily stick to what's
[01:06:43] [SPEAKER_00]: your strong side but me that's goofy food it's okay and so i always ride goofy food it
[01:06:50] [SPEAKER_00]: rain foil rain foil on the waves as well um so whenever surprise about in the last events
[01:06:58] [SPEAKER_00]: that was on the free strategy of the year but also from the from the youth event is that even
[01:07:05] [SPEAKER_00]: the top riders they're really focused on jumping one foot in front and well you can always go
[01:07:14] [SPEAKER_00]: much bigger once you hit the kicker riding outside we could see that only on the big air event as
[01:07:22] [SPEAKER_00]: well i was surprised about how many guys were still only jumping riding inside but and it
[01:07:31] [SPEAKER_00]: causes short so you could still hit a chop but you can never go as big while you were riding
[01:07:37] [SPEAKER_00]: outside and hit the kicker going outside and i think in that way if you start setting up events
[01:07:45] [SPEAKER_00]: like that and you're creating more fair platform for goofy and regular riders to show what they
[01:07:54] [SPEAKER_00]: can do on the waves because there you can still ride normal stance switch stands but you need to
[01:07:59] [SPEAKER_00]: form both sides in jobs and this can be a basic high back loop or forward loop doesn't need to be
[01:08:07] [SPEAKER_00]: the craziest whatever like a red seven is where it's been moved from toe side but i think
[01:08:18] [SPEAKER_00]: you could create a platform which is which has more connection to a bit all the riders as well
[01:08:26] [SPEAKER_00]: cannot keep up with crazy freestyle level now but where they can show their ocean knowledge
[01:08:34] [SPEAKER_00]: to read correctly the waves and to just show basic high jumps on waves going out i would love to
[01:08:41] [SPEAKER_00]: see that i hope they will create something like this but she haven't been well we wait but let's see
[01:08:49] [SPEAKER_01]: yeah that's a good point actually yeah it's a good point yeah and turn it up because the
[01:08:55] [SPEAKER_00]: waves are not it's for because the waves no you have a couple of air day which is the right
[01:09:03] [SPEAKER_00]: ender super offshore no jumping possible it's even a bit of a wave that i think it is really
[01:09:10] [SPEAKER_00]: a winged foil waves with such offshore wind i'm not sure and then you have a dark line Morocco
[01:09:16] [SPEAKER_00]: which is also a right ender and not really suitable for jumping it's quite dusty behind
[01:09:25] [SPEAKER_00]: the headland with a massive hotel on top and i think in the last stop is somewhere in Brazil i
[01:09:31] [SPEAKER_00]: do not know the spots so probably then it's also went from the right side so it's a bit
[01:09:38] [SPEAKER_00]: it's not the tour with a variety in there i see what you're saying yeah yeah yeah because i'm
[01:09:45] [SPEAKER_01]: regular footer so then yeah it would make it i see what you're saying definitely so based on your
[01:09:53] [SPEAKER_01]: your preference you would have an advantage for sure huh good point actually well we'll see
[01:10:00] [SPEAKER_01]: maybe they do come up with something more next year because they're always looking for new places
[01:10:04] [SPEAKER_00]: it's maybe budget uh because they just need kind of and it's quite so money to host and the event
[01:10:10] [SPEAKER_01]: yeah they're actually yeah they're not cheap they're not cheap to host and but when they do
[01:10:16] [SPEAKER_00]: hold the event it's amazing like that a bit for the youth i will get in La Palma it's just in
[01:10:23] [SPEAKER_00]: canary in island i've never ever before before i travel there but they set up a very nice event
[01:10:33] [SPEAKER_00]: where all kids felt invited and was a super good atmosphere and very
[01:10:40] [SPEAKER_00]: clear communication of what was gonna happen when so organization wise there's nothing to do
[01:10:46] [SPEAKER_00]: to do to blame them it's just a different format and different spots in my opinion at good point
[01:10:55] [SPEAKER_01]: cool well hey man thanks for thanks for taking the time out of your your evening coming chat with
[01:11:01] [SPEAKER_01]: us today it was great to meet you and it was nice to learn about all your camps in your school
[01:11:06] [SPEAKER_01]: be pretty sick once I get over there find a comment visit and show it thanks for the
[01:11:11] [SPEAKER_00]: invite absolutely then well i think you should say connected for 11th on yes yeah um there's my
[01:11:19] [SPEAKER_01]: first time down last winter and i was like whatever i'll go down this winter again and uh good
[01:11:26] [SPEAKER_01]: basketball court in La Palma so if you play basketball anybody else i'll be playing out there in
[01:11:30] [SPEAKER_01]: La Palma some nights when it's not windy but yeah it's a it's a beautiful place the people are
[01:11:36] [SPEAKER_01]: amazingly friendly there's really good food and it's really well known for this side like
[01:11:42] [SPEAKER_01]: Canadians in americans just drive down so yeah but there's the whole your whole side of the world is
[01:11:48] [SPEAKER_01]: beautiful as well so i'd be kind of cool to explore more of that stuff too your app is amazing for
[01:11:54] [SPEAKER_00]: wind and oil disciplines shorting what he said Canadians just just drive over to Mexico
[01:12:01] [SPEAKER_01]: yeah so i'm gonna be driving from Ottawa to Vancouver Island soon probably in a week or so
[01:12:06] [SPEAKER_01]: which is about 5,000 kilometers and then i'm gonna drive from Vancouver Island down to baja
[01:12:15] [SPEAKER_01]: which i think is another 30 or 40 hours so probably 80 hours i think is what i'm getting
[01:12:20] [SPEAKER_01]: end up driving and i'll stay put for six months and then drive back up north and then probably
[01:12:26] [SPEAKER_01]: back east so yeah i have about seven or eight days at a time in the car and uh yeah i got you
[01:12:35] [SPEAKER_01]: i'm doing it for a while now so i got family and both sides so my mom's in Ottawa my brother's
[01:12:39] [SPEAKER_01]: out on the coast so you gotta see family but it's uh it's a cruise it's a chill ride once you get your
[01:12:45] [SPEAKER_01]: mind you gotta snap like you gotta snap it's thinking and you go to accept what you're doing
[01:12:50] [SPEAKER_01]: and once it accepts what it's doing then you can kind of cruise but it takes a dare so to snap it
[01:12:56] [SPEAKER_01]: out of its past and then you can go like long haul truckers man like on the how to how they do it
[01:13:05] [SPEAKER_01]: but it'll just be me and long hauler sometimes and i was like and then when you meet them
[01:13:11] [SPEAKER_01]: at the truck stops and stuff normally normally they're pretty chill they walk around everything is
[01:13:18] [SPEAKER_01]: slow and they're not too excitable because they're just used to cruise in for 13 hours like
[01:13:24] [SPEAKER_01]: it's 12 or 13 hours a day so it's trying to learn from them to be a bit more chill
[01:13:30] [SPEAKER_01]: but yeah it's all cool stuff
[01:13:33] [SPEAKER_00]: at five thousand key meters they drive from my place to terrify and back through the south of
[01:13:39] [SPEAKER_00]: sport of europe continent surf and people call me crazy everybody do that they drive
[01:13:47] [SPEAKER_00]: three days that hours straight to Denmark to score surf three out three days that all
[01:13:52] [SPEAKER_00]: long and then drive overnight back then I was at work the next day again you guys just so much more
[01:13:58] [SPEAKER_01]: than i do yeah let's see how far it is here yeah it's um oh for some reason it's not loading
[01:14:06] [SPEAKER_01]: up there's a one it's wanting to fly it's see it's so far it wants to fly there but i think it's
[01:14:11] [SPEAKER_01]: about four five thousand at least yeah it's a little bit of maybe four five hundred something
[01:14:15] [SPEAKER_01]: I think it's a pretty decent track yeah yeah yeah but what you got to do you got to bring the
[01:14:22] [SPEAKER_01]: full gear flying's a pain in the butt then when you get there you don't have a car
