[00:00:00] Hey everyone, welcome back to the show. This week we have Ladina and Dasher joining us. They are legends in the wind sports industry and they're here to talk about their new business called Cizen. They introduced the island of Bonaire as the majestic wind island that it is. We get into how they found wind, their upcoming adventure trips and clinics and much more. So I do hope that you enjoy this episode.

[00:00:28] If you haven't caught last week's episode, Greg and Augustine from We Can Foil were on the show to talk to us about their Canadian not-for-profit organization that is doing big things in the world of foiling in Canada. We talked to them about how they got started, their goals, their free demos across Canada and much more. So I hope you enjoy this episode as well.

[00:00:50] Now I want to take this opportunity to thank our team for making the show a reality. We have Frank that helps with media and consulting, we have Matthias on guest relations, we have Stefan on audio mastering, and we have myself talking away. So a big thank you guys as a lot of work goes into each and every episode and we would not be able to do it without you.

[00:01:10] Next, I'd like to say a big thank you to our sponsors. So first we got North Foils. I'll be riding their SF range this winter in La Ventana. So far I'm loving their foils. And the team over at North is awesome. They're a great group to be working with.

[00:01:25] Next, we have a new sponsor, On Kiteboarding. They're a Canadian owned company, Benoit is just outside of Montreal. Amazing wings as well. So if you want to visit OnKiteboarding.com and check out their NOAA V2.

[00:01:39] So I'll be riding their NOAA V2s this winter. I just picked up a 3, 4 and a 5 meter and have a prototype to test, which is going to be pretty fun. But we're going to have to keep that one on the down low.

[00:01:51] So lastly, winter is coming and if you haven't decided where to go yet, I would suggest hopping over to our website, winglifepodcast.com.

[00:01:59] I will be giving lessons in La Ventana, Mexico, so I'll be focusing the majority of my time there.

[00:02:04] So if you're looking to take lessons, let me know. Send us an email. We'll get you hooked up. Get you on the water.

[00:02:10] So now I hope you enjoy today's episode.

[00:02:19] Welcome to the Wing Life Podcast, where we talk about wing foiling and the lifestyles of those who enjoy this great sport.

[00:02:27] How did you both meet?

[00:02:28] We met on the island, Bonaire, like a few years ago, very superficious.

[00:02:36] And then, yeah, a little closer.

[00:02:39] I had a client that we traveled around the world with teaching windsurfing.

[00:02:44] And we had taken him there for his birthday.

[00:02:47] And we had an old group that traveled with us on entourage.

[00:02:52] And we were getting ready to go on the water with him right there by Franz Paradise.

[00:02:57] And I looked over and I saw Ladina doing her sup yoga classes.

[00:03:04] So I walked over and talked about sup yoga.

[00:03:07] Anything to go over and meet her because she was just kind of interesting.

[00:03:10] But that was four years before we actually became a couple.

[00:03:17] So it was pretty cool.

[00:03:18] So we met on Bonaire by the boat ramp.

[00:03:22] There you go.

[00:03:22] That's a good romantic wind story.

[00:03:24] We don't get those too often.

[00:03:27] For sure.

[00:03:28] What brought you both to Bonaire?

[00:03:31] Windsurfing.

[00:03:32] Ten years ago, we decided to go there for a year.

[00:03:37] And I'm still living there now.

[00:03:39] So I went there with my daughter.

[00:03:43] And she went to school.

[00:03:45] And then she decided I want to stay there.

[00:03:47] So I stayed there.

[00:03:48] And for now, she left the island again.

[00:03:50] I'm still there.

[00:03:51] And yeah, that's how I became an island woman.

[00:04:01] It's such a top, I guess, rated island in the Caribbean for wind.

[00:04:06] And the history of wind there is unbelievable.

[00:04:11] And so how is that to live in that kind of mecca of wind?

[00:04:16] It must be a pretty cool spot to hang out in.

[00:04:20] Yeah.

[00:04:20] Yes, it is.

[00:04:21] I mean, we work, right?

[00:04:23] We work like everybody else.

[00:04:25] But we always try to keep a little space in between our work to go on the water.

[00:04:31] Because there's almost everyday wind.

[00:04:34] And yeah, evenings during the whole day.

[00:04:38] It slows down a little bit during lunchtime.

[00:04:40] But all there is wind.

[00:04:43] Not strong winds, but very nice to wind for a perfect.

[00:04:47] Like, yeah, it's on my list.

[00:04:51] The wind culture of having this whole, you know, I think the first time I went was in

[00:04:55] 94, 95.

[00:04:56] I was living in Aruba.

[00:04:58] And I had clients that wanted to go over there and do Bonaire versus Aruba.

[00:05:04] So they took me over.

[00:05:05] And that's when I met, you know, all these.

[00:05:07] I'd never seen so many kids windsurfing and windsurfing so well.

[00:05:11] So I did one of the first videos of the kids the following weekend.

[00:05:16] And, you know, now they're all grown up and they're still charging.

[00:05:20] And it's been incredible to watch the transformation of freestyle, you know, world-class level freestylers get into winging.

[00:05:28] Because suddenly, you know, their first day out and they're going for 360 spins.

[00:05:34] So that's been so incredible to watch.

[00:05:36] You know, it's like the level of talent there doesn't matter what you're dealing with when.

[00:05:44] And they just take off and they charge it right away.

[00:05:47] So that's pretty cool.

[00:05:49] Can you, like, wingfoil in Lack Bay?

[00:05:51] Is it deep enough?

[00:05:52] That's an interesting question because I see it a lot online.

[00:05:56] Because, you know, Bonaire's Lack Bay is known because you can, you know, you can ride 500 meters and still be in, you know, waist-deep water.

[00:06:07] But that really, and that's what it's known for.

[00:06:09] All the windsurf predominantly has taken place in that shallow part of the bay.

[00:06:15] But what you don't understand, a lot of people don't understand, is two-thirds of the bay is, you know, two to three meters plus.

[00:06:22] So, yeah, it's, if you look at a satellite image of the map, you can see the very light-colored area is this, you know, thigh to waist-deep water.

[00:06:32] But the rest of the bay is, about two-thirds of the bay is actually, you know, two to three meters deep.

[00:06:40] So, and even still in the shallow areas, there's people that are riding 40-centimeter mast to learn in waist-deep water, which is, I'm still uncomfortable with having my foil that close to the bottom.

[00:06:53] Yeah.

[00:06:54] And 40, that'd be a tough, that's not a lot of range for air.

[00:06:58] No, no, there's not.

[00:07:00] Not at all.

[00:07:00] But the water's really flat, so.

[00:07:03] Yeah, that's true.

[00:07:04] Are there good wave spots there as well?

[00:07:07] Around the island, or?

[00:07:09] You know, the biggest, that's the toughest thing for me, is the whole windward coast is just pretty much rocky coral shelf.

[00:07:19] Mm-hmm.

[00:07:20] Mm-hmm.

[00:07:21] Um, and so there's not any real good surf.

[00:07:28] Occasionally, the trail will go offshore, and you can find a spot to slip out a little keyhole through the reef, um, and get some clean surf.

[00:07:35] But if you go to the southern end of the island, because we've done a few shoots now the last couple of years, because I also do photography.

[00:07:43] And, you know, last year we went to the southern tip of the island, and we had a, you know, a big powerboat as an assistant.

[00:07:51] And we did full downwind, um, photo shoot.

[00:07:55] And it was, you know, two meter, three meter swell.

[00:08:00] Wow.

[00:08:01] And, but the thing is, you're going straight downwind with it away from the island.

[00:08:04] So there's no real easy access to downwinding or winging.

[00:08:10] You're always kind of like, we go winging up there, or down on that southern tip quite a bit, but you're always a little bit in the back of your mind if something goes down.

[00:08:19] Yeah, you're in trouble.

[00:08:20] You know, you're, the next stop is Curacao, and you're hoping you get to Curacao.

[00:08:25] So it's, it's kind of interesting.

[00:08:28] Yeah, I guess, well, there's nothing wrong with an amazing freestyle paradise.

[00:08:33] Yeah.

[00:08:33] Like, yeah.

[00:08:35] How did, um, how did you both kind of come into wind and find, um, wind in your lives, let's say?

[00:08:42] As I did spend most of my life here in Silver Plana, I hanged in the valley.

[00:08:49] I had it always in front of my nose, actually, the windsurfing on Lake Silver Plana.

[00:08:55] And, um, always really wanted to dive a little deeper into it, but difficult here because the season is very short.

[00:09:03] And, um, yeah, not much free time when you work regular.

[00:09:09] And then usually there's no wind when you're free.

[00:09:11] And so I started traveling a little bit, uh, with my ex-partner, which was a windsurfer.

[00:09:19] And he, yeah, we traveled a little to Egypt, to, uh, Cabaret, Isla Margherita, and then Bon Air.

[00:09:29] So Bon Air actually was the place where we got, especially I got hooked to windsurfing first.

[00:09:36] That's, yeah, that's, uh, the story.

[00:09:39] Silver Plana is supposed to be like my, our Frank, who works on the team.

[00:09:44] He just had, he lives in Frankfurt, Germany, and he just made his way up there and he rented a spot for a week.

[00:09:50] And apparently that's supposed to be an amazing paradise, like unbelievable up there.

[00:09:55] Nestled him in the mountains.

[00:09:56] Beautiful.

[00:09:57] Yeah.

[00:09:58] A water must be a bit cold, but that's why your season's a bit shorter, I guess.

[00:10:02] Okay.

[00:10:02] Yeah.

[00:10:03] Yeah.

[00:10:04] Yeah.

[00:10:04] The water is cold.

[00:10:05] I mean, we came here together last year and it was a very warm season and we said, okay, that's the spot.

[00:10:11] We're going to organize two wing foil and yoga weeks and adventure weeks here.

[00:10:17] And this year the temperature were different.

[00:10:20] So it was pretty cold and, uh, yeah, there was no way to go without, I usually, um, wing foil without head or helmet.

[00:10:31] So then I also had to wear my hoodie.

[00:10:35] A little colder.

[00:10:35] Now what does cold, what does cold mean to the both of you?

[00:10:39] Cause you're pretty much same Northern latitude as us, I guess.

[00:10:42] Probably.

[00:10:43] Yeah.

[00:10:44] Yeah.

[00:10:44] So air temperature during our wing foil weeks.

[00:10:48] And it snowed the last day.

[00:10:51] 10 degrees Celsius.

[00:10:53] Water temperature, maybe a little lower, like eight degrees Celsius.

[00:10:58] Okay.

[00:10:58] So a good winter suit and you're okay.

[00:11:01] Yeah.

[00:11:02] Yeah.

[00:11:02] So, so what was interesting is, so last year, you know, we were, we were camping out at Silva Plana and it was just like every day we woke up, you know, it's classy in the morning.

[00:11:12] It's a thermal wind.

[00:11:14] And we would just go, all right, let's go mountain bike here.

[00:11:17] Let's go hike there.

[00:11:18] And I'm from Florida.

[00:11:18] Florida.

[00:11:19] So for me, you know, being in these mountains is it's, I mean, I'm looking out right now and it's just an incredible place to be, but, you know, it usually got to be almost 70, 75 degrees every afternoon.

[00:11:31] And we were bouncing between, you know, three, five, five meter wings.

[00:11:37] And, um, you know, it was daily.

[00:11:39] Uh, so this year the weather was a little bit more up and down, but the cool thing was, is you can drive an hour and a half and you're in a whole nother temperature zone on Lake Como.

[00:11:51] So what we did for the last two, we, we, we were able to take all our guests and we had to change the, um, change the hotels, everything, but we were able to manage to move the old camp down to Lake Como.

[00:12:06] And, uh, there we had back up to like 75 degrees and we actually had a very gorgeous day.

[00:12:12] It was blowing probably 35 to 40 at one time.

[00:12:15] Whoa.

[00:12:16] So it was pretty, pretty extreme.

[00:12:18] I mean, so, um, yeah, that was, uh, that was, that's been pretty cool, but actually cold this year.

[00:12:26] I've been trying to find a point to get out and get actual snapshots of me, uh, winging in the snow, but it has, we haven't lined up yet to do that.

[00:12:36] It'll come.

[00:12:38] There's always snow.

[00:12:39] There's always snow.

[00:12:41] How did your journey start into all this, Dasha?

[00:12:44] Um, started out skateboard, surfboard.

[00:12:47] And then when I went to college, um, I was stuck in the middle of Florida without a car and I had a surfboard.

[00:12:54] So I started hooking up with these guys.

[00:12:56] This was 82 that were going windsurfing and they were full fledged into windsurfing, shortboarding in 82.

[00:13:04] So they became my best lifelong friends.

[00:13:07] And, uh, that started with, uh, you know, I kind of majored in psychology, minored in psychology and majored in windsurfing.

[00:13:16] Cause the next five years of college were all, you know, that was the heyday of windsurfing.

[00:13:21] You know, there was races every other weekend and it was a lot of fun.

[00:13:25] So just never stopped from then.

[00:13:28] And videography, photography as well.

[00:13:30] You had mentioned.

[00:13:31] Yeah.

[00:13:32] When'd you pick that up?

[00:13:34] When I was living in Aruba and, and coaching, there was a guy doing a weekly video for all the guests.

[00:13:40] And that was, you know, there was 150, 200 windsurfers a week.

[00:13:45] Then it was like the heyday.

[00:13:47] So I bought a camera so I could, from him that I could start, um, doing video analysis for coaching.

[00:13:55] And then he left the island.

[00:13:57] So there was this whole, like, who's going to do the video.

[00:14:01] So every week, once a week, I take off my coaching jersey and, you know, grab the camera and start filming everybody.

[00:14:09] And I'll sound very old, but I'd have a mixed tape of music and I just play the two together.

[00:14:15] And that's how it started.

[00:14:17] And then, and then, uh, I got my first edit VHS, super VHS edit deck where I could lay down audio and put clips over it.

[00:14:27] So I started editing and that was the process.

[00:14:30] And then windsurfing events started hiring me to come and do their, their videos.

[00:14:34] And that's how it, that's how that happened.

[00:14:38] Oh, that's phenomenal.

[00:14:39] Yeah.

[00:14:39] Good for you.

[00:14:40] Yeah.

[00:14:41] Did coaching kind of naturally come to the both of you for, for what you're doing now?

[00:14:46] Is it kind of, cause I guess the podcast, it was like, where do you put passion?

[00:14:50] Is it kind of the same sort of thing as why you're doing that?

[00:14:53] I mean, I always was actually into fitness and yoga.

[00:14:58] And, um, while I did start to windsurf a little bit more intense in one air, I, I also did start

[00:15:06] to combine the both of them.

[00:15:08] So, uh, uh, first offering, uh, life classes for people, for windsurfers at the beach, just, uh, mobility

[00:15:18] and yoga and, uh, and also working with professional windsurfers in one air together offering weeks,

[00:15:26] which were really combined with yoga.

[00:15:29] So like, uh, one or two yoga sessions per day, um, beside windsurfing for people and really

[00:15:37] experienced how people get into it, which never did yoga or mobility exercises and really felt

[00:15:45] the benefit of it.

[00:15:48] Um, how that, yeah, that not only the, um, the, the body, but also the mind got a little

[00:15:57] bit more trained how to be more aware about movements or tricks in windsurfing, the muscle

[00:16:05] memory, the whole connection, body and mind.

[00:16:09] And yeah, I really love to do that.

[00:16:12] I have to get into it this winter.

[00:16:15] Sure. Cause I got a little, little elbows, little things, same kind of process.

[00:16:20] Right.

[00:16:20] Yeah.

[00:16:21] But it's something that you have to build in.

[00:16:23] Um, I'll spend some time in La Ventana and the gym is two kilometers away so I can hike

[00:16:28] there, lift, and then come back in the morning, get to work and getting in the water in the

[00:16:32] afternoon, but I'll definitely have to build in at least half an hour to an hour of some

[00:16:37] other work as well.

[00:16:38] I think it's super important for us and at least you can enjoy, you can enjoy the water a

[00:16:44] lot more.

[00:16:44] When, when did you both think of starting up some camps?

[00:16:47] Like when was your, what was your first camp?

[00:16:51] How would that go?

[00:16:52] Well, actually I was running, um, a foil program for a really cool, uh, store in Florida during,

[00:17:01] and it's, I was doing it all through COVID.

[00:17:04] So they were really into, um, sup and their background was windsurfing, but they had gotten

[00:17:10] out of that decades ago.

[00:17:12] And so I came in, uh, to start a foil school.

[00:17:16] So we were doing e-foiling on the lake out back.

[00:17:18] And then we were doing, uh, you know, it was the first, uh, wing school in North Florida.

[00:17:24] Hmm.

[00:17:25] And I had some really cool guests and I'm like, okay, let's, let's see if we can go somewhere.

[00:17:30] So that's kind of what's, uh, you know, I reached out to Ladina.

[00:17:35] We'd been chatting online a little bit, but I said, Hey, I'm going to bring a group down,

[00:17:38] uh, to do a, a wing camp in Bonaire.

[00:17:42] So I came down and she said, I want to learn how to wing.

[00:17:46] I'll help you set, set everything up with accommodations and the equipment, everything.

[00:17:51] You teach me how to wing.

[00:17:52] So that was our, uh, that was in, I want to say 20, 20 and 21.

[00:18:01] So I went down, uh, with the, with the group and stayed.

[00:18:05] I didn't come home.

[00:18:08] So we started that.

[00:18:09] I can imagine.

[00:18:09] And then, then as we kind of started developing the, the, the yoga wing program, this, this

[00:18:17] year, uh, was the first taking, taking people somewhere else, which was, which was here.

[00:18:23] So I've been doing, you know, um, wing camps and clinics with windsurfing a long time, but

[00:18:32] to combine our, our skills and, uh, do these more kind of, uh, yoga wing adventures.

[00:18:39] We just are really just starting it up.

[00:18:41] So.

[00:18:42] Okay.

[00:18:43] It just seemed natural.

[00:18:45] A lot of people are starting to think more along that lines.

[00:18:48] It's not just like you might have some sightseeing, some biking, yoga, some good food and combine

[00:18:55] it into that.

[00:18:56] How do you find the clientele have been receptive to it so far?

[00:19:00] Are they really kind of enjoy that mixture of adventure and water time?

[00:19:05] Yeah.

[00:19:06] So we had the first group was very much wind oriented.

[00:19:11] So they really were hot for, for wind and wing foiling.

[00:19:17] And the adventure part was a little bit, yeah, not that important, but also they were, they

[00:19:25] were thrilled to see all the beauty here from the Alps.

[00:19:29] The second group we had there, the balance was a little bit more toward adventuring and yoga

[00:19:37] and not so strongly the wind part.

[00:19:41] So yeah, we were lucky with the groups that really did fit together.

[00:19:45] Perfect, perfect together.

[00:19:47] You know, I think, you know, it's such a cool aspect of what we did here is, you know, we

[00:19:55] had the group of people that came together as strangers, you know, they were all couples.

[00:20:00] That was cool.

[00:20:01] But they, they, by the end, you know, you make friendships and it's, it's such a cool, it's

[00:20:07] a, it's a little journey.

[00:20:08] It's more than just going to a destination and, and going winging.

[00:20:12] I mean, we really, we really came together as a group and, and made friends and I'm,

[00:20:17] you know, they've already started making plans for next year.

[00:20:21] So that's always good.

[00:20:23] That's positive.

[00:20:24] Can you maybe walk us through what a week would look like, for example, or how many, how long

[00:20:30] are your camps?

[00:20:31] Let's start there.

[00:20:33] So five days of activities.

[00:20:37] We start with yoga in the morning to really get our body tuned to what afterwards is happening.

[00:20:47] Mobility, a lot of mobility exercises.

[00:20:51] And we had a beautiful hotel here in Champfer in Silva Plana.

[00:20:57] People went for breakfast and afterwards, usually the mornings here are not very windy.

[00:21:05] The wind starts at lunchtime or a little later than lunchtime.

[00:21:09] So the mornings were filled up with hiking, doing a short hike, or biking, or go with the

[00:21:17] gondola up on a, on a top and see the view down to the playground, the lake.

[00:21:24] And then the afternoon swimming flight.

[00:21:26] Yeah.

[00:21:27] So then, you know, we kind of do lunch and then, you know, go winging for, you know, on

[00:21:33] a, on a good day, you know, two, three hours.

[00:21:35] I mean, it's cold, so you're only going to go for so long.

[00:21:38] But then when I'm out on the water, I would have a, always have my GoPro, like a necklace.

[00:21:45] So I just sit in the water and get people to jibe around me.

[00:21:48] Nice.

[00:21:48] So then, you know, in the evenings, if we had a good winging day and we had video, then

[00:21:53] we, we actually made a pretty cool classroom inside with a big screen TV and everybody

[00:21:58] would bring their, their, their tea or their beers or what have you.

[00:22:02] And we do the video analysis in the, in the evening before dinner.

[00:22:08] So we, we kept it, we kept it pretty loose.

[00:22:10] Like a lot of times everybody's been together all day.

[00:22:13] So, you know, most evenings people would either, if they wanted to pair up with some, some other

[00:22:18] people go to dinner, but we did two organized dinners during the week.

[00:22:23] So you get a little bit of free time, a little bit of chill time.

[00:22:27] Yeah.

[00:22:27] Yeah.

[00:22:28] Here you can't really go too wrong.

[00:22:30] Um, because if there's, if there's a day that you don't have wind, I mean, it's so unbelievably

[00:22:36] gorgeous here in the mountains that, uh, you know, you kind of, if you're walking up to this

[00:22:41] glacier and you're getting outside there and you kind of, you know, lose a little bit

[00:22:47] of the accession of, of wind.

[00:22:51] I can imagine.

[00:22:52] And then still, still you have the option to go down to Italy.

[00:22:57] So it's a one and a half hour drive and you're in a completely different climate.

[00:23:02] It's much warmer and yeah.

[00:23:04] Oh, no way.

[00:23:05] Palm trees growing.

[00:23:07] So yeah, that's what we did as well for one or two days then.

[00:23:12] Wow.

[00:23:13] What's the food like there?

[00:23:14] It must be, I'm just thinking some very rich, beautiful stuff.

[00:23:18] Yeah.

[00:23:19] So because it's so close to Italy, it's very Italian oriented food.

[00:23:24] So it's, you have a lot of pasta treats or yeah.

[00:23:29] A lot of cheese, very nice cheese.

[00:23:32] And here in the Alps and yeah.

[00:23:36] Just quite fresh products.

[00:23:38] So especially if you're used to Bon Air, there's not much fresh food here.

[00:23:44] Yeah.

[00:23:45] It's really like, wow.

[00:23:46] You see all these vegetables, super fresh and it's like, so nice.

[00:23:51] So you're running camps there.

[00:23:54] Are there any other destinations?

[00:23:56] Do you do Bon Air as well?

[00:23:58] What other spots around the world are you thinking?

[00:24:01] So I mentioned it's, there's nothing set yet.

[00:24:04] It won't be this year, but I'm really working on, we'll probably do a week in the gorge.

[00:24:11] Oh, you mentioned.

[00:24:12] Yes, yes, yes.

[00:24:13] In August.

[00:24:15] Because I've got a client that I'll go back out and he had me coaching for the whole month

[00:24:20] of July.

[00:24:21] July.

[00:24:22] So we're going to plan on August.

[00:24:24] I've been talking with the, the fellows at Big Winds about doing some stuff with those

[00:24:28] guys.

[00:24:29] So that would be cool.

[00:24:31] I'd love to get back to, you know, I winged that one time in Jerry, but we had, you know,

[00:24:37] the equipment was archaic compared to what we have now.

[00:24:40] So I'm really excited to try and get back to Jerry and do some, some downwinding and some

[00:24:46] downwind winging with people.

[00:24:47] Cause I think that would be, I can just remember what we were trying to do that first season.

[00:24:52] And now I just want to go back and, uh, and ride there again.

[00:24:57] And I was there and I was before it to go.

[00:25:00] And then also the, you know, we, we, we almost had a trip set up for December in the BBI, but

[00:25:08] I think the BBI is another one of those places where I've been to windsurf that I'm jonesing

[00:25:13] to go back and, and, um, um, foil.

[00:25:18] So yeah, that opens up for next year.

[00:25:20] The, those are the things we're looking at for the next couple of years.

[00:25:25] Yeah.

[00:25:25] Nice.

[00:25:26] Yeah.

[00:25:26] Those are some pretty cool destinations.

[00:25:28] Windsurfing wise, where have been some of your most fun and kind of highlights of places

[00:25:33] that you've been to?

[00:25:35] Um, and I have been in Cabarite, which was nice.

[00:25:41] That's more the party scene, I think then.

[00:25:45] Yeah.

[00:25:45] And, um, that was pretty cool location.

[00:25:51] Maui, of course, my favorite actually, yeah, until now, yeah.

[00:25:55] I almost forgot, yeah.

[00:25:56] Maui.

[00:25:57] yeah how is Kanaha

[00:25:59] waves

[00:26:00] yeah it was at Staple Road

[00:26:03] directly beach access

[00:26:05] and super nice

[00:26:07] I mean for me the first time waves

[00:26:09] I never really had waves

[00:26:11] like in Maui and this was

[00:26:14] yeah

[00:26:15] I'm looking forward to that in March

[00:26:17] we're very fortunate to have

[00:26:19] friends in the right places

[00:26:22] you travel quite a bit

[00:26:23] yeah

[00:26:24] there's a couple that

[00:26:26] I met when I was teaching in

[00:26:28] when I was teaching in Aruba Windsor

[00:26:31] and they came as

[00:26:32] like their first couple vacation before

[00:26:35] they were married and we hit it off

[00:26:37] right away so now they live

[00:26:38] about a half mile upwind of

[00:26:41] Kanaha so you can store your gear

[00:26:43] right there and just walk down

[00:26:44] to the beach and launch

[00:26:47] so that's definitely

[00:26:48] one of the A number one spots

[00:26:51] yeah I always loved the

[00:26:53] gorge I spent two summers in the gorge back

[00:26:55] in the windsurf days

[00:26:56] so it was really cool

[00:26:57] it was the first time going back

[00:26:59] as a foiler and I really enjoyed it more

[00:27:01] as a foiler than a windsurfer

[00:27:04] it's crazy right

[00:27:05] like I was there in September for a week

[00:27:07] we only got one day

[00:27:08] of foiling at event site

[00:27:10] but it was still

[00:27:12] it's still sensational

[00:27:13] foiling there

[00:27:14] yeah

[00:27:15] yeah it's pretty crazy

[00:27:16] as long as you watch out for the boats

[00:27:18] but

[00:27:18] yeah

[00:27:19] they sneak up on you

[00:27:20] those little things

[00:27:20] they do

[00:27:21] they do

[00:27:23] for sure

[00:27:24] and then I spent

[00:27:25] I spent a lot of time in Turkey

[00:27:27] and the Mediterranean

[00:27:29] the Aegean Sea

[00:27:30] I really want to get back there

[00:27:31] because there's some incredible

[00:27:33] between

[00:27:35] Turkey and

[00:27:37] Greece

[00:27:38] there's a channel there

[00:27:39] that we would just look at

[00:27:41] and my friend

[00:27:42] had a house right there

[00:27:43] we windsurfed downwind

[00:27:44] a couple of times

[00:27:45] and now

[00:27:46] when I think back

[00:27:47] to what the conditions were like

[00:27:49] there in that channel

[00:27:50] you're just dreaming

[00:27:52] to go back and foil it

[00:27:53] it opens up

[00:27:54] it was fun

[00:27:55] but

[00:27:55] yeah

[00:27:56] but the foiling would be phenomenal

[00:27:58] so

[00:27:58] there's a lot of places I've been

[00:28:00] that I just want to go back to

[00:28:01] as a foiler

[00:28:02] yeah

[00:28:03] what

[00:28:04] what was your first foil flights like

[00:28:06] uh

[00:28:07] with my teacher in Bon Air

[00:28:10] everything went well

[00:28:12] it was

[00:28:13] no

[00:28:15] it went

[00:28:15] first it went really good

[00:28:17] and then

[00:28:18] I had a crash

[00:28:20] I broke

[00:28:20] or

[00:28:21] squeezed a rip

[00:28:22] I think

[00:28:23] so then

[00:28:23] I was a little bit

[00:28:24] whoops

[00:28:25] I was

[00:28:26] I was not thinking about

[00:28:27] the

[00:28:27] the

[00:28:28] the

[00:28:28] impact vest

[00:28:29] and she did

[00:28:30] she did phenomenal

[00:28:32] she was learning so quickly

[00:28:33] and then she

[00:28:34] she

[00:28:35] uh

[00:28:35] was getting up on foil

[00:28:37] and then she took a

[00:28:38] a hit to the rail

[00:28:39] on her ribs

[00:28:40] yeah okay

[00:28:41] so that was

[00:28:42] um

[00:28:43] yeah

[00:28:44] but that overcome that fear

[00:28:45] yeah

[00:28:47] yeah

[00:28:47] yeah

[00:28:48] learning how to tack

[00:28:50] at the start

[00:28:51] because my toes

[00:28:51] weren't talking to my brain

[00:28:53] they're like yeah whatever

[00:28:53] I don't need to do anything

[00:28:55] I can just hang out here

[00:28:57] that's a tricky one

[00:28:59] when you stall

[00:28:59] and attack

[00:29:00] you do that to me again

[00:29:02] it's it's

[00:29:02] it doesn't happen

[00:29:03] did you guys ride strapless

[00:29:05] or strapped in

[00:29:07] strapless

[00:29:07] strapless

[00:29:08] strapless

[00:29:08] yeah

[00:29:09] okay

[00:29:10] have you tried straps yet

[00:29:11] I'm strapless as well

[00:29:13] yeah

[00:29:13] I rode straps

[00:29:14] for a while

[00:29:16] um

[00:29:16] and then

[00:29:18] had too many friends

[00:29:20] that twisted ankles

[00:29:21] and knees

[00:29:21] and then I just decided

[00:29:22] to pick my

[00:29:23] I keep debating

[00:29:25] because I mean

[00:29:25] watching the freestyle guys

[00:29:27] jumping

[00:29:27] I'm

[00:29:28] you know

[00:29:29] I want to get back

[00:29:30] in there

[00:29:30] but I really do enjoy

[00:29:32] um

[00:29:33] I enjoy strapless

[00:29:34] so

[00:29:35] yeah

[00:29:35] so do I

[00:29:36] I was thinking about it

[00:29:37] but

[00:29:38] I was afraid of the breaches

[00:29:40] when you're going down

[00:29:41] like two three

[00:29:42] whatever foot swell

[00:29:43] I'm already falling three feet

[00:29:45] the catapults are already crazy

[00:29:46] imagine if I was

[00:29:48] I couldn't get a foot out

[00:29:49] or one foot got out

[00:29:50] that's the only thing

[00:29:51] I was thinking

[00:29:52] for all of us

[00:29:53] like every

[00:29:53] average everyday riders

[00:29:55] it's like

[00:29:56] is there much of a point

[00:29:58] I'm not sure

[00:29:58] if you're not jumping

[00:29:59] I'm not jumping

[00:30:01] but

[00:30:01] I mean

[00:30:02] and I still

[00:30:02] maybe wave performance

[00:30:03] maybe

[00:30:04] yeah

[00:30:05] I

[00:30:06] you know

[00:30:06] where I remember

[00:30:08] the strap helping me so much

[00:30:10] was when I started riding

[00:30:11] um

[00:30:12] toe side

[00:30:13] in the waves

[00:30:13] you know

[00:30:14] I was in Florida at the time

[00:30:15] and

[00:30:16] and actually learning how to

[00:30:17] come out

[00:30:18] and ride toe side

[00:30:19] sometimes having that front foot

[00:30:21] in the strap

[00:30:21] you know

[00:30:21] the tendency so often

[00:30:23] is for somebody to pull back

[00:30:25] on the wing

[00:30:25] and

[00:30:25] and fall off the back

[00:30:26] the board

[00:30:27] when they're trying to come out

[00:30:28] you could actually

[00:30:29] kind of pull yourself back forward

[00:30:31] and that was

[00:30:32] besides doing my

[00:30:33] small amount of jumping

[00:30:34] that I

[00:30:35] played with

[00:30:35] um

[00:30:36] learning how to ride

[00:30:37] toe side

[00:30:38] it helped

[00:30:39] to

[00:30:39] be able to keep my weight forward

[00:30:41] that was the one thing

[00:30:42] I remember

[00:30:42] personally

[00:30:43] about learning

[00:30:44] um

[00:30:45] I'm usually pretty open

[00:30:46] with people

[00:30:48] as to

[00:30:49] what

[00:30:50] what feels

[00:30:50] you know

[00:30:51] when I taught Windsor

[00:30:52] and I was like

[00:30:52] okay

[00:30:52] you gotta do it

[00:30:53] like this

[00:30:53] this

[00:30:54] this

[00:30:54] and this

[00:30:54] and what

[00:30:54] with uh

[00:30:55] foiling

[00:30:56] you know

[00:30:56] there's so much

[00:30:57] uh

[00:30:58] flow to it

[00:30:58] that it's like

[00:30:59] okay

[00:30:59] if it's working

[00:31:00] for you

[00:31:01] you know

[00:31:01] go for it

[00:31:02] this is

[00:31:03] this is

[00:31:03] what I do

[00:31:04] but

[00:31:12] do you

[00:31:13] do you

[00:31:13] find

[00:31:13] you're

[00:31:14] getting

[00:31:14] a lot

[00:31:14] of

[00:31:14] people

[00:31:15] who are

[00:31:15] brand new

[00:31:16] to wind

[00:31:16] sports

[00:31:16] brand new

[00:31:17] to water

[00:31:17] sports

[00:31:18] or is it

[00:31:19] a lot

[00:31:19] of

[00:31:19] converters

[00:31:20] from wind

[00:31:21] or kite

[00:31:21] or something

[00:31:22] like that

[00:31:23] when I was

[00:31:24] in Florida

[00:31:26] and we were

[00:31:27] running the

[00:31:27] e-foil

[00:31:28] set up

[00:31:28] in the back

[00:31:29] of the shop

[00:31:30] there

[00:31:31] you had a lot

[00:31:31] of more

[00:31:32] people that

[00:31:33] were just

[00:31:33] coming in

[00:31:33] and saw

[00:31:34] foiling

[00:31:34] and said

[00:31:35] oh

[00:31:35] oh

[00:31:35] gotta go

[00:31:35] try that

[00:31:36] and that

[00:31:36] was the

[00:31:36] easiest

[00:31:38] spot

[00:31:38] to go

[00:31:39] and learn

[00:31:39] but in

[00:31:40] Bonaire

[00:31:41] it's

[00:31:42] I would

[00:31:43] say

[00:31:44] 80

[00:31:45] 85%

[00:31:46] of the

[00:31:46] people

[00:31:46] that

[00:31:47] are

[00:31:47] coming

[00:31:48] down

[00:31:48] there

[00:31:49] have

[00:31:49] some

[00:31:50] wind

[00:31:50] sported

[00:31:50] background

[00:31:52] and most

[00:31:53] of them

[00:31:53] windsurfing

[00:31:54] we do

[00:31:54] have some

[00:31:55] kiters

[00:31:55] that come

[00:31:55] in

[00:31:56] but mostly

[00:31:57] windsurfers

[00:31:57] now if you're

[00:31:58] going to go

[00:31:59] to Bonaire

[00:31:59] are there

[00:32:00] certain

[00:32:00] highlights

[00:32:01] of island

[00:32:02] life

[00:32:02] that you

[00:32:03] would recommend

[00:32:03] to people

[00:32:04] see

[00:32:04] because it's

[00:32:04] on my

[00:32:05] list

[00:32:05] I'd love

[00:32:05] to go

[00:32:06] down

[00:32:07] what would

[00:32:08] you

[00:32:09] maybe

[00:32:10] places

[00:32:10] to stay

[00:32:11] we already

[00:32:11] know

[00:32:11] you can

[00:32:12] have a

[00:32:12] deeper

[00:32:13] section

[00:32:13] which I

[00:32:13] didn't

[00:32:14] even

[00:32:14] know

[00:32:14] about

[00:32:15] but

[00:32:15] what are

[00:32:16] accommodations

[00:32:17] like

[00:32:17] what could

[00:32:18] the

[00:32:18] scene

[00:32:19] be like

[00:32:19] if you're

[00:32:19] looking for

[00:32:20] to go

[00:32:21] there

[00:32:21] I mean

[00:32:21] there's

[00:32:22] a big

[00:32:22] range

[00:32:23] of

[00:32:24] you can

[00:32:25] have

[00:32:26] the

[00:32:26] island

[00:32:26] is

[00:32:27] pretty

[00:32:27] expensive

[00:32:28] right

[00:32:29] comparing

[00:32:30] to other

[00:32:30] Caribbean

[00:32:32] islands

[00:32:32] but

[00:32:32] you still

[00:32:33] can find

[00:32:35] Airbnb

[00:32:35] places

[00:32:36] which are

[00:32:36] not too

[00:32:37] expensive

[00:32:37] but then

[00:32:38] you have

[00:32:38] the

[00:32:38] oceanfront

[00:32:39] villas

[00:32:40] which are

[00:32:40] of course

[00:32:41] expensive

[00:32:42] which

[00:32:43] actually

[00:32:44] is relative

[00:32:44] when you

[00:32:45] come in

[00:32:45] a group

[00:32:45] there's

[00:32:46] usually

[00:32:47] like

[00:32:47] these

[00:32:47] five

[00:32:48] or six

[00:32:49] five

[00:32:49] bed

[00:32:50] villas

[00:32:50] right

[00:32:50] if you

[00:32:52] are

[00:32:52] let's

[00:32:53] say

[00:32:53] five

[00:32:54] couples

[00:32:54] then it's

[00:32:55] really

[00:32:55] affordable

[00:32:55] or even

[00:32:57] five

[00:32:57] people

[00:32:58] then it's

[00:32:59] nice to

[00:32:59] rent a

[00:33:00] villa

[00:33:01] oceanfront

[00:33:02] diving of

[00:33:03] course

[00:33:03] or snorkeling

[00:33:04] is really

[00:33:05] nice

[00:33:05] I heard it was

[00:33:06] sensational

[00:33:06] there

[00:33:08] yeah

[00:33:08] the reefs

[00:33:09] are so

[00:33:11] close to

[00:33:11] shore

[00:33:11] right

[00:33:12] you don't

[00:33:12] really have

[00:33:12] to go

[00:33:13] out

[00:33:13] with the

[00:33:13] boat

[00:33:14] you just

[00:33:14] can walk

[00:33:15] in

[00:33:15] and see

[00:33:16] all the

[00:33:17] nice

[00:33:17] fish

[00:33:19] and

[00:33:20] yeah

[00:33:21] there's

[00:33:21] you can

[00:33:22] go hike

[00:33:23] on the

[00:33:23] island

[00:33:23] there's a

[00:33:24] beautiful

[00:33:24] national

[00:33:24] park

[00:33:29] I'd say

[00:33:29] the one

[00:33:30] interesting

[00:33:31] thing is

[00:33:31] the wind

[00:33:32] is so

[00:33:32] consistent

[00:33:33] that

[00:33:33] you know

[00:33:34] if you're

[00:33:34] coming for

[00:33:35] a dedicated

[00:33:35] week

[00:33:36] of

[00:33:37] a

[00:33:37] wind

[00:33:38] sport

[00:33:39] you're

[00:33:39] not

[00:33:40] a lot

[00:33:40] of

[00:33:40] people

[00:33:41] don't

[00:33:41] actually

[00:33:42] see

[00:33:42] much

[00:33:42] of

[00:33:42] the

[00:33:43] island

[00:33:43] other

[00:33:43] than

[00:33:43] going

[00:33:43] from

[00:33:44] where

[00:33:44] they're

[00:33:44] staying

[00:33:44] maybe

[00:33:45] going

[00:35:07] so

[00:35:07] there's

[00:35:08] a lot

[00:35:08] of

[00:35:08] high

[00:35:08] rises

[00:35:09] so

[00:35:09] that's

[00:35:09] pretty

[00:35:10] cool

[00:35:10] but

[00:35:10] there

[00:35:10] are

[00:35:10] some

[00:35:11] cool

[00:35:11] some

[00:35:11] very

[00:35:12] nice

[00:35:12] resorts

[00:35:12] if you

[00:35:13] want

[00:35:13] to

[00:35:13] come

[00:35:14] to

[00:35:14] the

[00:35:14] resort

[00:35:15] that's

[00:35:15] going

[00:35:15] to be

[00:35:15] oceanfront

[00:35:16] have a few

[00:35:16] pools

[00:35:17] has a

[00:35:17] big

[00:35:37] and

[00:35:37] traveling

[00:35:37] around

[00:35:38] kind

[00:35:38] of

[00:35:38] a

[00:35:38] little

[00:35:38] bit

[00:35:39] chasing

[00:35:39] the

[00:35:39] seasons

[00:35:40] around

[00:35:40] how

[00:35:40] do

[00:35:40] you

[00:35:40] like

[00:35:41] that

[00:35:41] yeah

[00:35:42] I like

[00:35:42] it

[00:35:43] a lot

[00:35:43] I mean

[00:35:43] it

[00:35:44] started

[00:35:44] just

[00:35:44] actually

[00:35:45] since

[00:35:47] I

[00:35:48] knew

[00:35:48] Dasher

[00:35:48] before

[00:35:49] I was

[00:35:50] quite

[00:35:51] focused

[00:35:52] on the

[00:35:52] island

[00:35:52] also

[00:35:53] because

[00:35:53] of

[00:35:53] my

[00:35:54] hermit

[00:35:55] building

[00:35:55] up

[00:35:56] my

[00:35:56] little

[00:35:56] company

[00:35:57] there

[00:35:57] so

[00:36:00] really

[00:36:01] intense

[00:36:01] traveling

[00:36:02] I did

[00:36:03] before

[00:36:04] I

[00:36:05] went

[00:36:05] to

[00:36:06] Bonne

[00:36:06] Arabe

[00:36:06] now

[00:36:07] together

[00:36:08] with

[00:36:09] Dasher

[00:36:09] I

[00:36:09] really

[00:36:09] like

[00:36:10] it

[00:36:10] I

[00:36:10] see

[00:36:11] a lot

[00:36:11] of

[00:36:11] new

[00:36:12] locations

[00:36:13] and

[00:36:13] new

[00:36:13] adventures

[00:36:14] yeah

[00:36:15] nice

[00:36:16] I

[00:36:17] remember

[00:36:18] somewhere

[00:36:18] along the

[00:36:19] line

[00:36:19] thinking

[00:36:20] you know

[00:36:21] if I

[00:36:21] could

[00:36:22] do

[00:36:22] I

[00:36:23] think

[00:36:23] the

[00:36:24] ratio

[00:36:24] was

[00:36:25] six

[00:36:25] months

[00:36:26] ocean

[00:36:28] two

[00:36:29] months

[00:36:29] mountain

[00:36:29] and two

[00:36:30] months

[00:36:30] travel

[00:36:30] this was

[00:36:31] a long

[00:36:31] time

[00:36:31] ago

[00:36:32] I

[00:36:32] thought

[00:36:33] that

[00:36:33] would

[00:36:33] be

[00:36:33] cool

[00:36:33] and

[00:36:34] kind

[00:36:35] of

[00:36:36] makes

[00:36:36] me

[00:36:36] think

[00:36:37] the

[00:36:38] manifestation

[00:36:38] happened

[00:36:39] without

[00:36:39] me

[00:36:40] even

[00:36:40] knowing

[00:36:40] it

[00:36:40] because

[00:36:41] that's

[00:36:41] where

[00:36:42] we're

[00:36:43] at

[00:36:43] right

[00:36:43] now

[00:36:43] is

[00:36:44] we're

[00:36:45] doing

[00:36:46] actually

[00:36:46] about

[00:36:47] eight

[00:36:47] months

[00:36:47] on

[00:36:48] Bonaire

[00:36:48] and then

[00:36:49] two

[00:36:50] months

[00:36:50] to travel

[00:36:50] but now

[00:36:51] two

[00:36:51] months

[00:36:51] here

[00:36:52] and it

[00:36:52] worked

[00:36:52] out

[00:36:52] great

[00:36:53] because

[00:36:54] Ladina

[00:36:54] has such

[00:36:55] a network

[00:36:55] of people

[00:36:56] here

[00:36:56] that

[00:36:57] what we

[00:36:57] did

[00:36:58] is we

[00:36:58] traded

[00:36:58] our

[00:36:59] place

[00:37:00] on

[00:37:00] Bonaire

[00:37:00] for

[00:37:01] we

[00:37:01] traded

[00:37:02] vehicles

[00:37:02] traded

[00:37:03] everything

[00:37:04] so

[00:37:04] we

[00:37:05] came here

[00:37:06] super cool

[00:37:08] like that

[00:37:09] so

[00:37:10] she's

[00:37:10] the woman

[00:37:11] that's

[00:37:12] from

[00:37:12] here

[00:37:12] Sylvia

[00:37:13] she's

[00:37:13] down

[00:37:13] learning

[00:37:14] to

[00:37:14] weighing

[00:37:14] and

[00:37:14] she's

[00:37:15] diving

[00:37:16] and

[00:37:16] all

[00:37:17] that

[00:37:17] and

[00:37:17] we're

[00:37:18] up

[00:37:18] here

[00:37:18] so

[00:37:18] beautiful

[00:37:20] do you

[00:37:20] ski

[00:37:20] yeah

[00:37:22] I do

[00:37:23] ski

[00:37:23] and snowboard

[00:37:24] yes

[00:37:24] that's

[00:37:25] how we

[00:37:25] grew up

[00:37:26] here

[00:37:26] yeah

[00:37:26] instead

[00:37:27] of going

[00:37:28] to

[00:37:28] kindergarten

[00:37:28] they put

[00:37:29] us

[00:37:39] next week

[00:37:39] we're

[00:37:39] going

[00:37:39] to

[00:37:40] Portugal

[00:37:40] because

[00:37:41] we're

[00:37:41] going

[00:37:41] to

[00:37:41] go

[00:37:42] maybe

[00:37:43] even

[00:37:43] see

[00:37:43] Nazaree

[00:37:44] break

[00:37:44] that

[00:37:45] would

[00:37:45] be

[00:37:45] cool

[00:37:45] because

[00:37:45] there's

[00:37:46] some

[00:37:46] big storms

[00:37:46] moving up

[00:37:47] the Atlantic

[00:37:47] but that's

[00:37:48] just our

[00:37:49] our vacation

[00:37:50] our real

[00:37:51] vacation

[00:37:52] is to

[00:37:52] go and

[00:37:54] Ladina and

[00:37:54] her daughter

[00:37:55] want to do

[00:37:55] some

[00:37:56] surfing

[00:37:56] learn to

[00:37:57] surf

[00:37:58] and I

[00:37:58] want to

[00:37:58] maybe get

[00:37:58] some

[00:38:09] so

[00:38:09] I've

[00:38:10] already

[00:38:10] got

[00:38:10] two

[00:38:11] private

[00:38:12] groups

[00:38:12] set up

[00:38:12] for

[00:38:13] Bonaire

[00:38:13] this

[00:38:15] season

[00:38:17] so

[00:38:17] we'll

[00:38:18] be

[00:38:19] setting

[00:38:19] up

[00:38:19] some

[00:38:19] more

[00:38:20] organized

[00:38:20] camps

[00:38:20] for

[00:38:22] March

[00:38:23] and

[00:38:23] May

[00:38:24] we're

[00:38:24] really

[00:38:25] trying

[00:38:25] to

[00:38:39] on

[00:38:39] the

[00:38:39] water

[00:38:39] but

[00:38:39] the

[00:38:40] wind

[00:38:40] is

[00:38:40] probably

[00:38:40] at

[00:38:40] its

[00:38:41] most

[00:38:42] consistent

[00:38:43] so

[00:38:44] yeah

[00:38:46] but I

[00:38:47] mean

[00:38:47] everybody

[00:38:47] views it

[00:38:47] kind of

[00:38:48] as a

[00:38:48] winter

[00:38:48] getaway

[00:38:49] but I

[00:38:49] mean

[00:38:49] this

[00:38:50] everybody

[00:38:50] that

[00:38:50] comes

[00:38:50] in

[00:38:51] May

[00:38:51] June

[00:38:51] are

[00:38:51] like

[00:38:51] oh

[00:38:52] this

[00:38:52] is

[00:38:52] super

[00:38:53] cold

[00:38:53] because

[00:38:53] you

[00:38:53] can

[00:38:53] get

[00:38:53] a

[00:38:54] sunset

[00:38:54] session

[00:38:54] when

[00:38:55] you're

[00:38:55] out

[00:38:55] with

[00:38:55] three

[00:38:55] people

[00:38:56] so

[00:38:57] and

[00:38:57] it's

[00:38:57] still

[00:38:57] cold

[00:38:58] here

[00:38:58] and

[00:38:59] especially

[00:38:59] like

[00:38:59] in

[00:39:00] eastern

[00:39:00] Canada

[00:39:01] May

[00:39:02] is

[00:39:09] it's

[00:39:09] nice

[00:39:10] but

[00:39:10] there

[00:39:10] is

[00:39:11] no

[00:39:11] wind

[00:39:12] so

[00:39:12] if

[00:39:13] you're

[00:39:13] looking

[00:39:13] it's

[00:39:13] either

[00:39:13] west

[00:39:14] coast

[00:39:14] and

[00:39:15] then

[00:39:15] it's

[00:39:15] even

[00:39:15] a little

[00:39:15] bit

[00:39:16] early

[00:39:16] for

[00:39:16] the

[00:39:16] west

[00:39:16] coast

[00:39:17] like

[00:39:17] it

[00:39:17] could

[00:39:17] be

[00:39:17] still

[00:39:18] wet

[00:39:18] and dreary

[00:39:19] in

[00:39:19] June

[00:39:19] out

[00:39:19] there

[00:39:20] so

[00:39:20] that

[00:39:20] is

[00:39:39] currently

[00:39:39] riding

[00:39:40] duotone

[00:39:41] wings

[00:39:42] so

[00:39:42] the

[00:39:43] unit

[00:39:43] the

[00:39:43] last

[00:39:44] two

[00:39:44] years

[00:39:44] and

[00:39:45] hopefully

[00:39:46] picking

[00:39:46] up

[00:39:47] the

[00:39:47] new

[00:39:48] 2025s

[00:39:49] probably

[00:39:50] going

[00:39:50] to

[00:40:09] the

[00:40:09] new

[00:40:10] Skybrids

[00:40:11] and

[00:40:11] they

[00:40:12] just

[00:40:13] got

[00:40:13] the

[00:40:13] first

[00:40:13] batch

[00:40:13] of

[00:40:14] Skybrids

[00:40:14] in

[00:40:15] late

[00:40:16] July

[00:40:16] so

[00:40:16] I

[00:40:16] got

[00:40:17] to

[00:40:17] ride

[00:40:17] those

[00:40:17] so

[00:40:18] for

[00:40:18] what

[00:40:18] I

[00:40:19] like

[00:40:19] to

[00:40:19] do

[00:40:19] I

[00:40:19] really

[00:40:20] think

[00:40:20] the

[00:40:20] easy

[00:40:21] planing

[00:40:22] mid-links

[00:40:23] are

[00:40:23] going

[00:40:24] to be

[00:40:24] really

[00:40:24] fun

[00:40:25] to

[00:40:25] have

[00:40:25] and

[00:40:26] then

[00:40:26] I

[00:40:27] was

[00:40:28] riding

[00:40:28] access

[00:40:29] foils

[00:40:29] as

[00:40:30] well

[00:40:30] as

[00:40:31] Ladina

[00:40:31] for

[00:40:31] the

[00:40:31] last

[00:40:33] two

[00:40:33] and

[00:40:33] a

[00:40:34] half

[00:40:34] years

[00:40:34] but

[00:40:34] I

[00:40:34] switched

[00:40:35] over

[00:40:36] to

[00:40:36] writing

[00:40:36] code

[00:40:36] foils

[00:40:37] in

[00:40:39] what

[00:40:39] are

[00:40:40] your

[00:40:40] first

[00:40:40] impressions

[00:40:40] with

[00:40:41] those

[00:40:41] boys

[00:40:42] you

[00:40:43] know

[00:40:43] I

[00:40:44] tell

[00:40:44] you

[00:40:44] the

[00:40:44] I

[00:40:45] got

[00:40:45] three

[00:40:46] foils

[00:40:47] I

[00:40:47] got

[00:40:47] the

[00:40:47] 980

[00:40:48] the

[00:40:49] 980S

[00:40:49] which

[00:40:50] is

[00:40:50] you

[00:40:51] know

[00:40:51] like

[00:40:51] this

[00:40:52] such

[00:40:53] a

[00:40:53] user

[00:40:53] friendly

[00:40:55] great

[00:40:56] all

[00:40:56] around

[00:40:56] you

[00:40:57] know

[00:40:57] it

[00:40:57] does

[00:40:58] what

[00:40:58] I

[00:40:58] like

[00:40:58] to

[00:40:58] do

[00:40:58] glide

[00:40:59] and

[00:40:59] it

[00:41:09] downwind

[00:41:09] with

[00:41:09] this

[00:41:10] season

[00:41:10] that's

[00:41:11] my

[00:41:11] goal

[00:41:11] is

[00:41:12] to

[00:41:12] be

[00:41:13] able

[00:41:13] to

[00:41:13] get

[00:41:13] to

[00:41:13] the

[00:41:14] southern

[00:41:14] tip

[00:41:15] and

[00:41:15] learn

[00:41:16] how

[00:41:16] to

[00:41:16] downwind

[00:41:18] downwind

[00:41:18] foil

[00:41:19] without

[00:41:19] having

[00:41:20] to go

[00:41:20] to

[00:41:20] curacao

[00:41:21] and

[00:41:22] then

[00:41:22] I

[00:41:22] have

[00:41:22] the

[00:41:23] 720

[00:41:25] which

[00:41:25] I've

[00:41:26] only

[00:41:26] ridden

[00:41:26] a couple

[00:41:27] times

[00:41:27] but

[00:41:27] I

[00:41:27] find

[00:41:28] like

[00:41:29] the

[00:41:29] newer

[00:41:29] a lot

[00:41:30] of

[00:41:30] the

[00:41:30] newer

[00:41:30] foils

[00:41:31] you

[00:41:39] that's

[00:41:40] so

[00:41:41] phenomenal

[00:41:42] I mean

[00:41:42] they go

[00:41:43] fast

[00:41:43] they glide

[00:41:44] and they

[00:41:44] turn

[00:41:45] really

[00:41:45] well

[00:41:46] so

[00:41:47] yeah

[00:41:47] you can't

[00:41:47] ask for

[00:41:48] much

[00:41:48] more

[00:41:48] yeah

[00:41:49] I've

[00:41:49] been

[00:41:49] riding

[00:41:49] an

[00:41:49] 830

[00:41:51] and

[00:41:51] a

[00:41:52] 1230

[00:41:52] from

[00:41:52] north

[00:41:53] I

[00:41:53] just

[00:41:53] hopped

[00:41:53] over

[00:41:54] to

[00:41:54] those

[00:41:54] guys

[00:41:55] and

[00:41:56] I'd

[00:41:57] never

[00:41:57] ridden

[00:41:57] like

[00:41:58] an

[00:41:58] 830

[00:41:58] is

[00:41:59] big

[00:41:59] for

[00:41:59] a lot

[00:41:59] of

[00:41:59] people

[00:42:00] but

[00:42:00] for

[00:42:00] me

[00:42:00] as

[00:42:00] small

[00:42:01] as

[00:42:01] I'd

[00:42:01] ridden

[00:42:01] and

[00:42:02] I

[00:42:02] love

[00:42:02] it

[00:42:03] yeah

[00:42:03] it's

[00:42:03] super

[00:42:03] fun

[00:42:04] it

[00:42:04] turns

[00:42:04] really

[00:42:04] quick

[00:42:04] it's

[00:42:05] nimble

[00:42:07] might

[00:42:07] downsize

[00:42:08] my

[00:42:08] board

[00:42:08] soon

[00:42:08] to

[00:42:09] something

[00:42:09] a

[00:42:09] little

[00:42:09] bit

[00:42:09] smaller

[00:42:10] but

[00:42:11] for

[00:42:12] learning

[00:42:13] for

[00:42:13] beginning

[00:42:13] like

[00:42:14] what

[00:42:14] have

[00:42:14] you

[00:42:14] seen

[00:42:15] to

[00:42:15] be

[00:42:15] some

[00:42:15] of

[00:42:16] the

[00:42:16] biggest

[00:42:16] tips

[00:42:17] and

[00:42:17] tricks

[00:42:17] that

[00:42:17] you've

[00:42:18] seen

[00:42:18] so

[00:42:18] far

[00:42:18] like

[00:42:19] are

[00:42:19] you

[00:42:19] have

[00:42:20] what

[00:42:21] kind

[00:42:21] of

[00:42:21] demographic

[00:42:21] are

[00:42:22] people

[00:42:22] coming

[00:42:22] to

[00:42:23] you

[00:42:23] are

[00:42:23] you

[00:42:23] getting

[00:42:24] like

[00:42:25] retirees

[00:42:26] are

[00:42:26] you

[00:42:34] that

[00:42:34] like

[00:42:35] I

[00:42:35] said

[00:42:35] there's

[00:42:35] a lot

[00:42:35] of

[00:42:36] older

[00:42:36] people

[00:42:36] that

[00:42:36] go

[00:42:36] to

[00:42:37] Bonaire

[00:42:37] for

[00:42:37] wind

[00:42:38] surfing

[00:42:38] and

[00:42:38] they're

[00:42:40] seeing

[00:42:40] that

[00:42:41] hey

[00:42:41] look

[00:42:41] at

[00:42:41] these

[00:42:41] people

[00:42:42] I'm

[00:42:42] out

[00:42:42] on

[00:42:42] 7-2

[00:42:43] sail

[00:42:43] and

[00:42:43] those

[00:42:44] guys

[00:42:44] are

[00:42:44] on

[00:42:44] these

[00:42:45] super

[00:42:46] light

[00:42:46] 5-meter

[00:42:46] wings

[00:42:47] and

[00:42:47] they're

[00:42:48] not

[00:42:48] having

[00:42:49] to

[00:42:49] do

[00:42:49] all

[00:42:49] this

[00:42:49] work

[00:42:50] to

[00:42:50] get

[00:42:50] up

[00:42:50] and

[00:42:51] ride

[00:42:51] so

[00:42:52] we

[00:42:53] do

[00:42:53] see

[00:42:53] a

[00:42:53] fair

[00:42:53] amount

[00:42:54] but

[00:42:55] also

[00:42:56] the

[00:42:56] youth

[00:42:57] factor

[00:42:58] as

[00:42:58] soon

[00:42:58] as

[00:42:59] soon

[00:42:59] as

[00:43:00] I

[00:43:01] think

[00:43:01] the

[00:43:02] last

[00:43:02] year

[00:43:02] it's

[00:43:02] been

[00:43:02] incredible

[00:43:03] to watch

[00:43:03] what's

[00:43:04] happening

[00:43:04] on the

[00:43:04] global

[00:43:05] scene

[00:43:05] with

[00:43:05] all

[00:43:05] the

[00:43:06] young

[00:43:06] people

[00:43:07] getting

[00:43:07] into

[00:43:07] it

[00:43:08] and

[00:43:08] pushing

[00:43:08] the

[00:43:08] sport

[00:43:10] it's

[00:43:10] pretty

[00:43:10] incredible

[00:43:11] to see

[00:43:11] what's

[00:43:11] happening

[00:43:11] so

[00:43:12] more

[00:43:13] and

[00:43:13] more

[00:43:13] we're

[00:43:13] getting

[00:43:13] families

[00:43:14] that

[00:43:14] come

[00:43:14] down

[00:43:14] and

[00:43:15] the

[00:43:15] kids

[00:43:15] are

[00:43:15] like

[00:43:15] I

[00:43:16] want

[00:43:16] to

[00:43:16] learn

[00:43:16] how

[00:43:16] to

[00:43:18] wing

[00:43:18] fly

[00:43:18] so

[00:43:21] that's

[00:43:21] pretty

[00:43:21] cool

[00:43:22] and

[00:43:22] I'm

[00:43:22] really

[00:43:22] excited

[00:43:23] I

[00:43:23] think

[00:43:24] the

[00:43:25] development

[00:43:25] from

[00:43:26] the

[00:43:27] downwind

[00:43:28] boards

[00:43:28] into

[00:43:29] mid-length

[00:43:29] boards

[00:43:30] and

[00:43:30] I

[00:43:30] know

[00:43:31] we're

[00:43:31] going

[00:43:31] to

[00:43:31] be

[00:43:31] testing

[00:43:32] some

[00:43:32] new

[00:43:34] very

[00:43:35] cool

[00:43:35] beginner

[00:43:36] oriented

[00:43:37] boards

[00:43:37] where

[00:43:37] people

[00:43:37] aren't

[00:43:38] having

[00:43:38] to

[00:43:38] sit

[00:43:38] there

[00:43:38] and

[00:43:38] work

[00:43:39] so

[00:43:39] hard

[00:43:39] to

[00:43:40] get

[00:43:40] speed

[00:43:41] that

[00:43:42] it's

[00:43:42] going

[00:43:42] to

[00:43:56] it

[00:43:57] just

[00:43:57] keeps

[00:43:57] getting

[00:43:57] easier

[00:43:58] to

[00:43:58] get

[00:43:58] into

[00:43:58] boiling

[00:43:59] I

[00:43:59] remember

[00:43:59] hearing

[00:44:00] the

[00:44:00] stories

[00:44:00] of

[00:44:00] people

[00:44:01] learning

[00:44:01] how

[00:44:01] to

[00:44:01] downwind

[00:44:02] oil

[00:44:02] ancient

[00:44:03] times

[00:44:04] two

[00:44:04] years

[00:44:04] ago

[00:44:06] compared

[00:44:07] to

[00:44:07] what's

[00:44:08] happening

[00:44:08] now

[00:44:10] it's

[00:44:11] pretty

[00:44:11] cool

[00:44:11] to be

[00:44:11] part

[00:44:12] of

[00:44:12] something

[00:44:12] that's

[00:44:13] evolving

[00:44:13] so

[00:44:13] quickly

[00:44:14] and

[00:44:15] what was

[00:44:16] hip

[00:44:17] a year

[00:44:17] ago

[00:44:17] is

[00:44:18] old

[00:44:18] news

[00:44:20] very

[00:44:21] true

[00:44:21] very

[00:44:22] true

[00:44:23] well

[00:44:23] is there

[00:44:24] anything

[00:44:24] else

[00:44:24] that you

[00:44:24] wanted

[00:44:25] to

[00:44:25] cover

[00:44:25] this

[00:44:26] afternoon

[00:44:28] morning

[00:44:28] for

[00:44:28] me

[00:44:29] yeah

[00:44:31] you

[00:44:32] know

[00:44:32] anybody

[00:44:32] that's

[00:44:33] that's

[00:44:34] you

[00:44:34] know

[00:44:34] because

[00:44:34] we

[00:44:34] both

[00:44:34] have

[00:44:35] so

[00:44:35] many

[00:44:35] windsurfing

[00:44:36] network

[00:44:37] people

[00:44:37] if

[00:44:38] you

[00:44:39] haven't

[00:44:39] tried

[00:44:39] it

[00:44:40] yet

[00:44:40] don't

[00:44:40] resist

[00:44:41] it

[00:44:42] you

[00:44:43] know

[00:44:43] I

[00:44:43] kind

[00:44:43] of

[00:44:43] burnt

[00:44:44] myself

[00:44:44] out

[00:44:45] on

[00:44:45] windsurfing

[00:44:45] and I

[00:44:46] was

[00:44:47] not

[00:44:48] really

[00:44:48] into

[00:44:48] guiding

[00:44:48] that

[00:44:49] so

[00:44:49] much

[00:44:49] anymore

[00:44:49] and when

[00:44:50] foiling

[00:44:50] came

[00:44:50] along

[00:44:51] that

[00:44:51] was

[00:44:51] I

[00:44:52] looked

[00:44:52] it up

[00:44:53] the first

[00:44:53] time I

[00:44:53] was actually

[00:44:54] on foil

[00:44:55] was on a

[00:44:55] windsurfing

[00:44:56] in 2017

[00:44:58] or 16

[00:44:59] like really

[00:45:00] early

[00:45:01] I thought

[00:45:03] it's just

[00:45:04] I haven't lost

[00:45:06] a bit of my

[00:45:07] frothiness

[00:45:08] in the last

[00:45:09] several years

[00:45:10] you know

[00:45:10] just like

[00:45:11] even here

[00:45:12] it's like

[00:45:12] oh it's not

[00:45:13] snowing

[00:45:14] maybe I can

[00:45:14] get in a

[00:45:15] 45 minute

[00:45:16] session

[00:45:16] and it's like

[00:45:17] you know

[00:45:17] the only person

[00:45:18] out there

[00:45:19] it's like

[00:45:19] you know

[00:45:20] it's

[00:45:21] it's

[00:45:21] it's

[00:45:21] such

[00:45:22] you know

[00:45:22] I did

[00:45:23] one season

[00:45:24] of snowboarding

[00:45:24] in Colorado

[00:45:26] and I still

[00:45:26] remember distinctly

[00:45:27] that first

[00:45:28] time I dropped

[00:45:30] in on a

[00:45:30] full powder

[00:45:31] run

[00:45:32] and it

[00:45:33] was that

[00:45:33] was one

[00:45:34] of the

[00:45:34] most magical

[00:45:35] feelings

[00:45:35] I ever

[00:45:35] had

[00:45:36] and then

[00:45:36] when I

[00:45:36] moved to

[00:45:36] Aruba

[00:45:37] after that

[00:45:38] it kind

[00:45:39] of missed

[00:45:39] that

[00:45:39] and then

[00:45:40] as soon

[00:45:40] as I

[00:45:40] started

[00:45:41] foiling

[00:45:41] I was

[00:45:41] like

[00:45:42] oh

[00:45:42] there's

[00:45:43] there's

[00:45:43] that

[00:45:43] sensation

[00:45:44] again

[00:45:44] and

[00:45:45] it's

[00:45:46] very

[00:45:46] similar

[00:45:46] isn't

[00:45:47] very

[00:45:47] yeah

[00:45:48] it's

[00:45:49] that

[00:45:49] you kind

[00:45:49] of

[00:45:49] you kind

[00:45:50] of

[00:45:50] drop

[00:45:50] into a

[00:45:51] turn

[00:45:51] and then

[00:45:51] you let

[00:45:51] off the

[00:45:52] turn

[00:45:52] and you

[00:45:52] come back

[00:45:53] up

[00:45:53] and

[00:45:53] you know

[00:45:54] it's

[00:45:55] it's

[00:45:56] I'm just

[00:45:56] happy that

[00:45:57] it came

[00:45:57] along

[00:45:58] before I

[00:45:59] was too

[00:45:59] old

[00:45:59] did you

[00:46:00] I think

[00:46:01] it saved

[00:46:02] a lot

[00:46:02] of people

[00:46:02] who were

[00:46:03] like

[00:46:03] I had

[00:46:03] a lot

[00:46:04] of friends

[00:46:04] on the

[00:46:04] Great

[00:46:04] Lakes

[00:46:05] who were

[00:46:05] charging

[00:46:05] pretty

[00:46:06] big

[00:46:06] stuff

[00:46:07] just to

[00:46:08] get

[00:46:08] the same

[00:46:09] feeling

[00:46:09] and then

[00:46:09] it

[00:46:09] comes

[00:46:10] to

[00:46:10] foiling

[00:46:10] we

[00:46:10] get

[00:46:10] to learn

[00:46:11] something

[00:46:11] brand

[00:46:19] and now

[00:46:20] like it was

[00:46:21] my buddy

[00:46:21] and I

[00:46:21] would just

[00:46:21] sat in

[00:46:22] the middle

[00:46:23] or not

[00:46:24] in the

[00:46:24] middle

[00:46:24] but like

[00:46:24] maybe

[00:46:25] a couple

[00:46:25] yards out

[00:46:27] at one

[00:46:27] of our

[00:46:28] favorite

[00:46:28] breaks

[00:46:28] and just

[00:46:29] sitting there

[00:46:29] looking

[00:46:29] around

[00:46:30] and so

[00:46:31] you get

[00:46:31] to kind

[00:46:32] of pretend

[00:46:32] like

[00:46:32] you're

[00:46:32] a bit

[00:46:33] of

[00:46:33] a

[00:46:33] surfer

[00:46:33] now

[00:46:33] too

[00:46:34] right

[00:46:34] like

[00:46:35] Great

[00:46:35] Lakes

[00:46:35] and at

[00:46:35] least

[00:46:35] you

[00:46:36] have

[00:46:36] power

[00:46:36] so

[00:46:36] you

[00:46:37] can

[00:46:37] get

[00:46:37] out

[00:46:37] and

[00:46:37] quickly

[00:46:38] and I

[00:46:39] surf

[00:46:39] ten

[00:46:39] times

[00:46:40] the

[00:46:40] ways

[00:46:40] that

[00:46:41] because

[00:46:42] you

[00:46:42] can

[00:46:42] just

[00:46:42] lap

[00:46:43] stuff

[00:46:43] which

[00:46:43] is

[00:46:44] insane

[00:46:45] so

[00:46:45] all

[00:46:45] these

[00:46:46] new

[00:46:46] kind

[00:46:46] of

[00:46:46] cool

[00:46:46] things

[00:46:48] and

[00:46:48] yeah

[00:46:48] it's

[00:46:48] a

[00:46:49] great

[00:46:49] time

[00:46:49] to

[00:46:49] learn

[00:46:49] and

[00:46:50] it's

[00:46:50] cool

[00:46:50] that

[00:46:50] you're

[00:46:50] offering

[00:46:51] these

[00:46:51] trips

[00:46:51] and

[00:46:52] adventure

[00:46:52] trips

[00:46:52] in

[00:46:53] different

[00:46:53] places

[00:46:54] and

[00:46:55] with

[00:46:56] good

[00:46:57] experience

[00:46:57] because

[00:46:58] there's

[00:46:58] a lot

[00:46:58] of

[00:46:58] people

[00:46:59] teaching

[00:46:59] and

[00:47:00] there's

[00:47:00] good

[00:47:00] instructors

[00:47:01] and

[00:47:01] some

[00:47:01] that

[00:47:02] mean

[00:47:02] well

[00:47:02] but

[00:47:02] there's

[00:47:02] others

[00:47:03] who

[00:47:03] have

[00:47:03] actually

[00:47:03] put

[00:47:03] in

[00:47:04] the

[00:47:04] time

[00:47:04] which

[00:47:04] is

[00:47:04] cool

[00:47:06] as

[00:47:06] well

[00:47:07] so

[00:47:07] if

[00:47:08] people

[00:47:25] anyway

[00:47:25] so

[00:47:25] the

[00:47:25] way

[00:47:26] we've

[00:47:26] been

[00:47:26] coordinating

[00:47:27] with

[00:47:27] people

[00:47:27] predominantly

[00:47:28] is

[00:47:28] through

[00:47:29] our

[00:47:29] social

[00:47:29] media

[00:47:29] so

[00:47:31] I'm

[00:47:32] Dasher

[00:47:33] Films

[00:47:34] or

[00:47:34] Charles

[00:47:34] Dasher

[00:47:35] and

[00:47:37] Ladina

[00:47:38] 007

[00:47:39] alright

[00:47:41] that works

[00:47:41] yeah

[00:47:43] it's

[00:47:44] Instagram

[00:47:45] or Facebook

[00:47:46] so

[00:47:46] yeah

[00:47:47] till now

[00:47:47] so

[00:47:48] okay

[00:47:49] we

[00:47:50] do

[00:47:50] have

[00:47:51] a

[00:47:51] URL

[00:47:52] so

[00:47:53] czen.org

[00:47:54] yeah

[00:47:55] oh

[00:47:56] okay

[00:47:56] czen

[00:47:57] awesome

[00:47:57] alright

[00:47:58] cool

[00:47:58] that

[00:47:58] sounds

[00:47:59] good

[00:47:59] well

[00:47:59] hey

[00:47:59] thanks

[00:48:00] it was

[00:48:00] great

[00:48:00] to

[00:48:00] meet

[00:48:01] the

[00:48:01] both

[00:48:01] of

[00:48:01] you

[00:48:01] and

[00:48:02] thanks

[00:48:02] a lot

[00:48:02] for coming

[00:48:02] on today

[00:48:03] and

[00:48:04] looking

[00:48:04] forward

[00:48:05] to chatting

[00:48:05] after

[00:48:06] and

[00:48:06] yeah

[00:48:07] seeing

[00:48:07] more

[00:48:07] people

[00:48:08] come to

[00:48:09] those

[00:48:09] camps

[00:48:10] cool

[00:48:11] thank you

[00:48:11] so much

[00:48:12] thank you

[00:48:12] alright

[00:48:12] everybody

[00:48:13] thanks for

[00:48:13] joining

[00:48:13] us

[00:48:14] Aloha
